Are you installing over WinXP?

You need to install Vista on a formatted NTFS partition.

I wouldnt use it as my maine OS, you should dual boot with XP untill you get your feet wet at least....

Yes, FAT32 is not currently supported.

Sad Vista Error 0x800706F8 & 0x800703E6

First, I downloaded WV RC1 from the MS site. I burned iso at 4x and it worked with HomeBasic version (I chose all cuz I didn't know which one I downloaded). OS came up, it worked fine, but the VGA was not recognize - I also tried to activate it, but it didn't accept it. Message said that the Pkey did not match the windows version I had chose. Then, I looked into the vista forums and a guy told me to reinstall the OS and enter the Pkey sent by email from MS before installation.

Stup!d me that I followed the instruction and I tried to reinstall the OS. BUT NOW, I get error 0x800706F8 "windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation." I of course did restart the installtion and it didn't work. Same error number. I tried to install without the Pkey and it keeps sending me the error. I've tried with each of the versions and nothing... However, the last error I got when I chose Ultimate - it gave me the error code 0x800703E6 instead. I still cant figure out what the issue might've been.

Last, I downloaded the iso again and burned it at 1x - follow all of the steps and I got same error 6F8 again.

All I can think is that there must be a hardware compatibility issue (maybe with the VGA card, harddrive, dvd-rom, etc) or none of my isos work (I tested them with the cksum and they passed). What I can't understand if there was a compatibility issue, why did it work on the first try? Why the Pkey given by MS did not work with ANY of the versions?

Has any of you have so much problems with this?

Thanks for reading and any inputs.

AO

Hey I was able to figure it out. I installed XP and installed (clean install) the VistaRC1 over. It worked fine. All drivers - even the wifi adapter & vga card.
