I'm using a soundblaster audigy 2 in windows vista beta 1, and I can't get the drivers to work correctly. I've heard reports of it working, but for me sound won't play and when I start up I get an error message that says that the drivers need to be reinstalled, or if I just installed them to restart.

I've restarted and nothing is fixed. Installation seems to go fine and the drivers are assigned correctly to my devices.

Please help.

Current kX drivers are not built for Microsoft Vista, especially not for Beta as far as I know. If you are talking about Creative drivers you are at the wrong place.

Support for operating systems for kX drivers is not planned to extend beyond Windows XP. If you would like to change that check this thread and vote. Thank you.

That may be so but I know other users have got it to work, and if so what am I doing wrong?

when you are installing BETA software, or any other one primary intended for TESTING purposes only - you agree that strange things may happen

if you really need sound - then go back to Windows XP and kX3537

An important question would be: which version of Vista are you using? The 32bit or 64bit version? Plus, which version of Vista was the people using that have gotten them to work?

I had the same problem as you (assuming you are trying to use the kX drivers).
From the reports it seems some people are able to get them to work and others aren't. I was one of the ones it apparently wasn't working for but after some investigation I found the problem that I was having. Most likely this is the same issue that others (and you) are having as well.

It seems the kX drivers change the default port used for audio out on your soundcard. With the way I had it hooked up sound plays fine with creative drivers in XP. However nothing played in vista with the kX drivers. By changing the port in the back from audio out 1 to audio out 2, I suddenly got sound from the kX drivers.

The error you get on startup is related to the kX Sound Mixer not being supported by Vista. The sound drivers DO work. To get rid of this message simply download a copy of msconfig, open it up and go to the startup tab. Uncheck the box next to "kX-Mixer". Done, play your favorite song really loud in celebration.

One thing I did notice is that I get some weird clicking noises in the latest version of iTunes. This doesn't happen in WMP or Winamp. Sounds like an iTunes issue, but I'd be interested in finding out if others have this problem.

Ok go to Creative's page and download the drivers for your card. Run the installer and see if they give you any problems. Most people are reporting "gibberish sounds" after installing the dirvers. This is fixed by re-booting the PC. Sounds stupid, but that's the info I have gathered after from various forums. Also if the drivers don't install, go ahead and run the installer again and again until they install. That's the other method people have used to install the Audigy drivers on Vista.
This is kind of "brutus" method but it seems to work.
