ImgBurn two concurrent sessions?

Having two burners there should be no problem to burn concurrently?

What I see here is the concurrent burn session has big problems to keep the buffers filled (actually running dry) even CPU load is under 12%!

Is ImgBurn or Vista the culprit?

Advise?

Re: ImgBurn two concurrent sessions?

I depends on how the burners are fed the data. If you are burning at 16x, that's 21MB/s. Times two and it's 42MB/s and if the data is on the inner edge of the hard drive and/or fragmented, that could be a problem. Also, how are the drives connected? If they are both ATAPI devices and on the same channel, then there may be some congestion. Optical drives usually work in UDMA4 mode, which is 66MB/s and that bandwidth is shared between the drives. In theory it should be enough, but it's possible that things are less than perfect in practice.

I have always had some problem with alternative burners so I suggest that you try Nero 9 Free as the first step. It's much slimmer than the commercial version, both in terms of size and capabilities, but the burning engine is there and it works fine.

Re: ImgBurn two concurrent sessions?

Actually I only burn at 4x (+RW) and both are sata burner Samsung SH-223B

I tend to believe it's ImgBurn but not sure. Problem may be that my files are pretty large zip files (~2gig)

Re: ImgBurn two concurrent sessions?

I don't think that that shouldn't be too much of a problem, maybe an anti virus trying to scan them could be causing the stalling, though I'm not sure that the CPU usage would be that low in that case. Try turning off residential protection and then try Nero 9 Free to see what will happen.

Re: ImgBurn two concurrent sessions?

Hiya,

closing virus scanner did not help - same problem!

Downloaded Nero 9 Free (ugh) - Ugly spartanian interface, slow burning and does not even allow concurrent burn sessions. Will wipe it as soon as the disk has finished burning.
