Choosing headphones Vista

I have a realtek solution that I use for my audio. When I unplug the speakers I get the message that they have been unplugged, but when I plug headphones in their place I get a message that a device was plugged in, I can hear just fine, but the system sees them as speakers. Not headphones. How can I force Vista to see them as headphones?

Re: Choosing headphones Vista

I don't see a tab for headphones either here. The signal output is the same if your driving a preamp to amplified speakers or headphones anyway (usually 1000mV max).

All I can suggest is choose stereo in your speaker config while using headphones because using fronts in 5.1 or 7.1 surround doesn't give you true stereo sound. All I can think of unless I missed a setting somewhere Bro.

Re: Choosing headphones Vista

Do you have a mic and headphone plug on your front or top panel connected to the header on the mobo? I haven't used these not sure if the green connector is configured differently that way.

Nothing connected anywhere apart from the green on in the back.
