Hard Disk Partitioning ???

Hello,

I bought a new ACER ASP 5920G series notebook. I would like to partition my HD into more as I have only 2 HDD's currently. Could some one help me how to do that without affecting the system.

Regards,
Remo

System Specs

With Vista's Disk Management(search start menu for "disk" and it'll pop up) can shrink an existing partition to allow for putting another one behind it in the resulting free space. Now this is still a risky business so you should backup any important files on that disk. And in case your Acer did not come with an Installation/Rescue disk for Vista, now is the time to use Acers software to create one.

Inside Disk Management, right-click on the one partition on the drive you want to make room for another partition and choose Shrink Volume. Choose the new size of that partition and let the system work alone untill it's done, it can take a while if there are a lot of files already on the drive. When it's done there will be free space where another volume can be created, again by right clicking.

Re: Hard Disk Partitioning ???

Hi everyone.
I'm having a very blonde moment along with the fact I've never worked with Vista, a mate has an Acer lappy and needs to increase the c partition size and to be honest I just can't think how to do it.
Thus far he has created a third unnamed partition, am I correct "probably not" in thinking that said unnamed partition should be firstly given a name and then used to increase the c drive size
Thanks in advance for any responses

Re: Hard Disk Partitioning ???

I do beta testing for HyperOS, which allows for multiple operating systems. I am constantly adding/deleting/re-sizing partitions.

Your best bet, is to use Acronis Disk Director. It's much easier than using Vista, and could save you a lot of problems.

Stay away from PartitiionMagic if you are using Vista. It does not 'play well' with Vista. It's good for XP, but not Vista.
