Vista lockup issue ........... Solved

made the move to Vista about 6 months ago and ever since i have been pestered by lockups the PC would freeze for about 30 seconds and then i would be able to use it again this was happening 2 or 3 times an hour

if i downloaded from the internet it would freeze

if i copied files to a cd while watching media player it would freeze

even if i was just browsing the internet it would freeze

basically anything that even slightly taxed the PC would lead to a lockup it has been a frikkin nightmare trying to solve it i have

tried all versions combinations of drivers

pulled out Soundcards GFX cards tried old/newer/onboard

reformatted

SP1

disconnected everything and run barebones ... all the usual things and no joy

i considered going back to XP

2 days ago i decided to clean the insode of the PC thinking Heat related mayby ???

the inside was quite clean but while i was looking i rememberd that i had issues once with an IDE cable ... i pulled the SATA cable from the Mobo and for some reason it appeared to be stuck in tight finally got the cable out and replaced it with a new cable

and

Success not 1 lockup in 2 days and i have hammered the crap out of it watching a film while copying 4 gig files to the HD and at the same time writing to nero and it seem's flawless

Fingers crossed

poxy cable

I've gotten that a fewtimes too just because a SATA cable has wiggled a little off its ideal position. With five drives I need to remember replacing the oldest couple of cables one day...
