Windows Media Center enables screen saver
Been having this issue for a while, can't figure it out on my own, and google turns up nothing...
Normally, fullscreen video apps (windows media player, MPC, etc.) disable the screen saver when they're running. However, opening Windows Media Center causes the screen saver to kick in after the default time even when watching videos in other applications.
The behaviour is persistant until a reboot.
Would really save me a lot of effort remembering to wack a key on the keyboard every 9 minutes to stop the screen saver from interrupting my movies if anyone knows how to fix this.

i haven't had this happen in windows media player... but what i have been having for problems is that the screensavers manually set time on EVERY machine i've built refuses to stick...
however it seems to be that every time a video driver change occurs.... it resets.. .but then again, it'll reset at other times i can't figure out..... rebooting can sometimes reset it to the default 20 minutes..... drives me nutz.

When you use full-screen mode to watch video in Windows Media Center, the screen saver may start on a Windows Vista-based computer
CAUSE
This issue occurs if one of the following conditions is true:
• The On resume, display logon screen check box is selected on the Screen Saver tab of the Screen Saver Settings dialog box.
• The Require a password (recommended) setting is enabled under the Require a password on wakeup option of the Define power buttons and turn on password protection page.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, enable the Don't require a password setting, and then click to clear the On resume, display logon screen check box. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open Power Options. To do this, click Startthe Start button, type power options in the Start Search box, and then click Power Options in the Programs list.
2. On the Select a power plan page, click Require a password on wakeup in the task pane.
3. On the Define power buttons and turn on password protection page, click Don't require a password.
4. Click Save changes.
5. Open Personalization. To do this, click Startthe Start button, type personalization in the Start Search box, and then click Personalization in the Programs list.
6. Click Screen Saver.
7. Click to clear the On resume, display logon screen check box.
8. Click OK.

Well, that's problem I'm having, but the response MS gives is a workaround rather than a solution.
The actual screensaver coming up while windows media center is playing doesn't bother me too much, what really bothers me is that opening WMC causes OTHER applications to have the screensaver open during fullscreen playback.

Even the power saving kicks in the same way. It's quite bad.

Bummer, so I guess I either have to do this, or stop using Windows Media Center for TV, which is awesome otherwise.
Ohwell, thanks for the help.

you're welcome. you may want to find a small program to turn screensaver off at before and on at after movie with only one click,
and shortcut to it on your desktop or quick launch, so that you won't have go many steps to do it.
