Which Edition of Vista are You Using?
Please select the Edition you use. If you're using more than one edition, please select the MOST used one.
I'd also like to know your OPINION of the edition you're using. So, once you vote, give us some idea of how you like/dislike it. What are its main good and bad points? Thanks! EDIT: Should I designate 32 vs 64 bit versions? I think it's probably OK as it is since those voting and responding are stating so.

Windows Vista x64 ultimate (also used 32bit version as well.. prefer the 64bit)
Is ultimate worth it over home premium... HELL NO.... not until microsoft starts providing some considerable "Extras"...... If i had to choose again.. and pay..... definitely would stick with home premium.... So far.. i've yet to find a thing in any version of vista that i dislike/like... i mean it's fairly simple... Home Premium has everything majority of anyone will ever use plus a little more..... Ultimate has it's neato extras such as Dreamscene.... but that's about it for the bonuses.... Definitely wouldn't want basic....

I didn't vote, but if I were to buy Vista, (which I believe I will before the end of the year) it would be home premium. The only substantial thing that I will miss from home premium is that you cannot remote desktop to it. You can only do that in business and ultimate. Sure there's VNC but from my experience even on a LAN, remote desktop works better.

Home Premium 32-bit Edition for now.
i still using XP x64 and before it dies i may upgrade it to the x64 of Vista if i could. otherwise, i will never have a chance to actually use the Vista x64 Edition. Good: i personally thinks it's the best operating system ever without a doubt. most stable operating system, better operating system memory management than other Windows, easier to use than ever. Bad: no, really, can't think of anything. |

Ultimate 64-bit
Problems: Cisco's VPN client doesn't work, and Creative's drivers are a mess. Happy with everything else.

Recently been using Home Premium (32) for a good few months..Thanks to the recent hardware upgrade vista runs smoothly.
Just been given a copy of Vista Ultimate yesterday due to a mates pc has turned out to be incompatible due to it's age. In general i have had very little problems with one exception.I can't get my XFI Xtreme Music s/c to work.Forced to use my onboard sound. Last edited by MIG-31; Oct 13, 2007 at 08:23 AM. |

Cd Drivers & the new set from creative.Tried everything down to trying it out in another pci slot. That made no difference. I know the card works as no beeps or error messages show.Every driver installs ok and detects the card being used.As you can still hear some sound but it's extremely muted.
My onboard sound is pretty good but for the lack of EAX support it certainly don't match the xfi's sound. Even tried a xfi pro gamers crd and that was identical. |

The cd drivers was for the xfi pro i bought the other day,This had 'Works with Vista' on the box and included a vista drivers cd.Thinking that the card was faulty (had a few problems under xp also) was the reason i bought the card..As i said it made no difference. This has been returned to the store since.

Both PCs at home are running Ultimate x64. I preferred the x86 version for a while but once they got up to 4GB ram there was no other choice. However, I have not been disappointed and right now this is the best OS I've ever used. I will also agree with the other that the Ultimate is not worth it at all over home premium. There just isn't enough there to justify the price difference.
@Mig That is weird you cant use your X-Fi with Vista. We have the same board and mine runs great(ive run both an original xtreme music and my current xgamer pro without issues). You should try to rma the thing and enjoy better sound

I run Vista business. I got it for free from MS for attending some online seminars and such (as well as Office 2007). Runs good for me and is just the way I like my OS, very bear bones, no frills. Since getting a DX10 card, I've no issues with games. Over all, I'm pretty happy with it.

Vista Ultmate x64
In comparison to XP, and XP x64 the x64 edition of Vista is leaps and bounds ahead of XP in terms of alot of things in my opinion. DX10 is completely worth it, and overall responsiveness of the OS is much better in comparison to XP. I am completely happy thus far, no hardware problems, only problems I have is when I go to use a 3rd party benching program and then its drivers arent digitally signed, and they have to be 64bit then the kernel level driver protection kicks into high gear and doesnt install it unless I F8 and disable authentication. |

Thanks for the heads up on the bios too. I don't check for them as often since they seem to be a little slower than usual getting them out for this board.

Although I could be wrong, I'd guess that on technology related sites like this, people who pirate it (and why would you steal any version other than Ultimate?) are going to skew the results somewhat.

Installed Vista x64 Home Premium some weeks ago just to see if it is really that bad as the birds sing from the trees
and I must say: In my case, it works just fine.Ok i've done some precautions with the drivers (just to be sure they're available for Vista x64) and cause this is my Internet, Multimedia and Gaming rig it's not such a problem if I have to reinstall in case of some mistakes with Vista ![]() There are in fact more things to modify or configure for your "feel at home" in Vista than in XP, but I think Vista is much more friendly to new computer users than XP is. The normal work and multimedia performance feels same as in XP, with the SP1 also the file handling is as fast as it is in XP. There are some performance losings in games, but this is a known fact and I don't really care about it. I choose Home Premium cause as I described don't need the extended security functions and stuff like shadow copies. |

I have a OEM version of Ultimate 64 that will be on my prime rig tomorrow, it has Vista HP 64 right now, but it needs me to reactivate it due to changes and since I am going to migrate the HP 64 to another computer one the board comes back from RMA.
I also have another computer with Vista HP 64 and one with XP64, I actually think XP64 is better if you are using DX9. I have always like XP64 and it really took a turn for the better with SP2 last year, Vista 64 is really starting to grow on me, but 2 Gig Ram is the minimum needed. When it is done and said I will have four windows 64 bit machines with Vista 64 Ultimate on the one that will be DX10 capable (Just ordered a 3870 today... it was in stock then) and I have Call for Duty 4. Come to think of it I will wait till I have the Video card before I do the install of the OS

I was debating whether or not to go Vista, so i d/led a copy and installed it on an external drive. There were many issues such as my canon printer and plextor OD always triggering the new hardware wizard on every boot, my sony cam-corder not being recognized, etc...
After about 1 month, i bought ultimate 64bit oem, installed it as my main os and couldn't be happier. XP is now on my raptor e-sata and i hardly boot into it. My printer and dvd drive problems are no more and cam-corder is working thank zod, that was my biggest worry, brand new HD HDD cam-corder and not being able to pull of the AVCHD footage. All my hardware works fine... A few hardware upgrades at the same time E600->Q6600, 2K->4k ram, bigger psu, ide->sata OD, fresh install of Vista and it's flying... Some older games no longer install or work, had to upgrade some software here and there, but i'm happy. Can't wait for more updates in 08...

Well you know how tomorrow never comes, I decided to wait and put in my new 3870 and a 500K drive at the same time so I have the 64 bit ultimate on, but am still transferring apps and files. 64 Ultimate is roughly $200 compared to $125 of Home Premium 64. HP64 is very good and I doubt most who have it think that Ultimate would be a worthy upgrade, but I have two comps with Vista HP 64 and one with XP64 SP2, and I think it is a close call, but I am happier (About $75 happier) with Ultimate 64.
There are still some companies out there who can't grasp the concept of 64 bit computing (Adobe for one), you would think that they would wake up and smell the Coffee!
