I've been using Vista Home Premium OEM 32-bit for over two months now. I have my system set up so that I can change the boot drive in BIOS and be back in XP in just a few minutes time.

So far, though, I've been quite happy with the experience with Vista. I think it's been close to a month now since I even booted into XP at all.

The one thing I'm waiting on, however, is installing any of the SP's that have been available. I think, with the Updates I've gotten, there's really no need at this time to [possibly] mess up a good combination with BETA software.

Opinions?

Vista Starter is surprisingly superb in low-end computer. Disk space occupied 3GB or less. Shutting down and up computer is as though running in XP Prof.

I had not heard of Vista Starter... interesting

I do have all three of my Vista 64 bit machines running with SP1, Home Premium is good, but I do like Ultimate...not sure if I really use all of Ultimates features. I seem addicted to it's Texas Hold'em game though.

"Windows Vista Starter is not available in developed technology markets such as the United States, the European Union, Australia, or Japan. Windows Vista Starter ships on lower-cost computers sold by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Microsoft OEM distributors in 139 countries." From Microsoft's site

Must be why I hadn't heard of it, apparently it is a more basic version of Vista Basic.

I'm using Vista Business 64 bits with SP1. It works just fine. I got the 64 bit version mostly because I wanted to use 4 GB or RAM.

Moved to x64 Home Premium at last xmas and it works just fine for my rig. I wonder why they are selling Vista Starter in Singapore since it's one of those country's that are technologically developed and it's only supplied from OEM's...

Vista Business x64 here. Business is the flavour they serve through MSDNAA (maybe I should have gone with x86 version though, as I only have 1GB RAM) and I'd say that it's a good choice. It lacks the Media Center and media authoring capabilities (which is why Home Premium is a better choice for many home users), but has everything else, including some stuff absent from Home Premium, such as Complete PC Backup and remote desktop connection (and I've even used it).

If you do get the 64 bit version. 64 bit is finally gaining steam and will be the new standard soon. Ultimate offers several advantages, but only if you use those features does it make great sense

I have a question about Vista 64 bit.Does this os install on most modern day hardware ? and have much better compatibility over 32 bit.

Or does it depend on what the your pc specs, for example you need 64 bit hardware.I have not read enough about this so could somebody give Me some basic insight of this.

Click my system Specs to see what i use.

Mig: The C2D is 64-bit compatible so all you really need is 64-bit compatible CPU.
And It's highly recommend to have 4Gb of RAM.

I already know about the ram teme.. but not being tech minded im not sure about the cpu (even though it is a CD2) and this may need to wait a little while longer..

Does this help.. If a screenshot of the other pages will help, let me know.I just need to know for sure before i decide to change over.I don't know when it will be either.

Looking on Overclockers, all the specs state 64 bit compatible.

Been running Vista Ultimate 64bit - and honestly it's the first version of Windows, running on this hardware, that finally matches the performance and stability I had running Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on a 486 DX4/120. It's been a long time coming, but glad to have the performance back after well over 10 years.

Mig, I think you'll really like 64bit Vista if you try it. And most 32-bit software runs great too, even older stuff.

I have gone to 64 bit earlier than i expected.Worked damn hard this last week to gain the extra cash.

I have opted for Home Premium 64bit and so far i only have two issues.

A) Football Manager 2008 (fully Updated) installs fine, but this will not start up at all.

B) My canoScan N670u flatbed scanner dont have 64Bit drivers available,And so far vista is not accepting the 32 bit drivers for it..even though the scanner is probably 6 year old it may be time to upgrade shortly.

Apart from these points i am pleased so far.
