ATI Drivers in Vista
Hello I am Dual Booting Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista. On XP Pro my HiS X1950 Pro IceQ3 Turbo 512mb AGP works fine never had a problem with it. On Windows Vista though my Graphics Drivers (7.8) are always failing. I get Blue Screens whenever I play a game (Flight Sim X, TW PGA Tour 2008) Windows is saying ATI Graphics fault caused the Blue Screen. I've also had Blue Screens just by emptying the Recycle Bin. I also get 'Your Graphics Drivers stopped responding and have recoverd' messgaes just by coming in and out of applications etc etc.. I have used Driver Cleaner to remove the old Drivers before replacing with the new drivers and still the problem persists. Can ayone please shed some light on any problem they may think it is?? I have contacted Hitech and as of yet no reply. My system spec's are as follows
Abit IC7 Max3 (Intel i875p chipset), Intel P4 3.2g Northwood, 2048mb OCZ PC3200 Platinum Edition DDR400 (3.2.3) HiS Radeon X1950 Pro IceQ3 Turbo 512mb AGP, WD Raptor 74g SATA- 150. Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
I know you will say you need to upgrade to PCI Express (DX10) but I am only really using the PC for Internet Browsing and playing my beloved FSX plus I cant really afford to as I would want to spend quite alot of money on a new rig. I know I will have to soon to get the best out of FSX. Thank you for taking the time out to read this and if I've missed anything please ask!!
PS. I cannot overclock the Graphics Card as the Monitor flickers! (ATI know about this problem)
Damn, Iv'e put this in the wrong place, very sorry!!

I'd suggest trying to use the microsoft supplied WDM drivers to see if the results the same, it could potentially be a bug with the AGP Guart driver for the board...

Hi guys, I'le be honest, its been there since the begining. I first notice it when I downloaded Halo 2 demo, the game would just freeze and move at about 1 frame per 10 seconds until it either unfroze or I re-set. it never Blue Screened though! I then installed 7.8 catalyst from His website and it seemed to have stopped the problem, good I thought until I installed FSX and then the BSOD started happening. It seems to be when you move quickly in game or you press a key on the keyboard. If I am browsing the net and you try and slide the page up quickly it will give the Graphics drivers have recoverd balloon
What I will do now is uninstall 7.8 catalyst using Driver Cleaner and play FSX with just the Windows Drivers, see if that works, I will also try 7.9 catalyst again see if I can get that stable and report back to you! Gratzi

Hi again lol! Ive just installed 7.9 and it Blue Screened straight away so I have just downloaded the update you kindly left the link for and i will rty it now. I'le let you know what happens!
Ive just tried the update from Windows for Windows Vista and it says this update does not apply to your system! Now i'm proper stumped. It's a killer this is, Ive got Vista OEM version so I am not going to get any support from them so I am stuck with an OS that dosent work (not that it's any fault of Microsoft as ATI should of had this problem sorted by now).
I am now wondering is it my i875p chipset thats at fault?
When I downloaded the demo of FSX I had no problems at all with it but with the full version it crashes all the time!
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 2057
Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 116
BCP1: 83D6C008
BCP2: 8B0CF6EC
BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: 00000002
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1
Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini092507-03.dmp
C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-55375-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Temp\WERF944.tmp.vers ion.txt
This is the report windows left after re-boot from latest crash. Can someone please confirm, is there a Catalyst 7.9 update for the X1950?? If you go to ATI's site they send me to the 7.9 suite but most of the other sites have 7.8 as the latest!

the "this update does not apply to your system" as far as i know this also means that the system has already have the updated files. but i can't be so sure of all the problems you have right now, if my reading finds anything about the problems i'll let you know.

Hi all again, I have just noticed that there is no Smart Gart in my Vista Catalyst, where there is on the XP version, is this normal?? I have had 2 Blue Screens today already so I am going to have to give up on Vista. On the Driver Cleaner website it says 99% of problems solved, please please help me I really dont want to be the 1% lol! If I try and do a Cab Clean it says 'no files found' so that won't work unless it is something I am doing wrong! I am really worried about activating Vista as well as I dont know whether to give up on it or try another clean install and run the risk of 'this product key is in use' syndrome! Heeeelp!

it's likely that your system configuration just isn't supported by vista....
have you submitted a support ticket to ATI?

Hii, I have sent a ticket to HIS and ATI and I am still waiting for a responce (2 days now).
When you say System Configuration, what are you refering to?? The only thing I can think of is the Intel i875p chipset. It passed the Windows Vista Checker and I get 4.4 in Vista. I have been able to run Future Mark 06 (3700 ) with no problems at all and the demo of FSX was absolutly fine with no crashes at all. I am concerned that the is no Smart Gart in Vista though. If it is a scae of non compatability with my PC then I have just blown £60 as Vista will be tied to the motherboard and I wont be able to swap it over to a new PC, or will I, I havent registerd it online yet just in case anything like this happend.

if you haven't activated it online.. then you won't have to worry...
when i install vista on ANY machine, i make sure i don't provide a CD-Key, pick the correct version, and the disable automatic activation..
test run it for 30 days..... if all is well... activate it.

Hi Judas. I have put in the CD key but I have not activated it, does this mean that it wont work as I have put in the CD key? I was actually trying to be honest when I bought Vista. I purchaced my XP Pro off e-bay with a promise that it WAS a genuine copy and then after downloading updates found out it was'nt. By the time I complained to the seller he had been booted off, so no refund. O well you live and learn! Mugged off and &^%$ed off lol!

If you haven't activated it.. you still shouldn't have a problem..... as microsofts servers will not have the cdkey registered to a specific machine on thier servers....

Cracking! I am going to do a clean install of Vista, I had a reply from ATI with the latest chipset drivers for the 875p chipset. Intel have released a Driver for the 875p for Vista so it must be supported. They are also saying that my PSU might not be powerful enough but that cannot be the case as FSX and my X1950 pro run flawless on Windows XP. I will Install Vista first, then I will add the drivers for my motherboard and then add the Catalyst before I do any updating from Microsoft. I think this is the way I should do it. Anyway here's hoping!! Thank's for your help Judas!!

Didn't I read somewhere here that there problems with AGP cards and the newer drivers?
You might want to try some older drivers. Sometines newer isn't always better. In my case I cant use anything newer than the 7.4's for IL2 1946 because I'm using two monitors.

for Vista home prem OEM copies, i always only get "3 days" to activate online. however, i have never installed Vista without entering CD key, and ran the clean install only once per each copy, but i reactivated by phone call plenty of times.

Hi guys, Ive tried 7.7, 7.8 and 7.9, they all BSOD. I have done a clean install of Vista, then put my 875p Vista chipset drivers in, then the performance patch for Vista, then updated Vista online. After this was done I installed 7.7 catalyst (recommended by HIS). Then I installed FSX with its SP1. I dont think I can do a cleaner install of the drivers yet after 7 freezes (your drivers have failed and recoverd syndrome) in game it finally gave up the ghost and Blus Screened. Lets just say that banging my head against the wall is an understatement. I have the Vista HP OEM and it gives me 30 days to register.
Just to recap, I have Windows XP Pro dual booting on the same PC and the X1950 pro runs FSX absolutley maxed out with everything on Ultra and it runs fautlless.
Lets just say for arguments sake that it was my PC not compatable with Vista, the problem only happens when you install the ATI drivers, otherwise the PC runs fine. Also lets say that it was my 560watt PSU that was not giving the right amp's, then why does it run XP and FSX faultless. The only reason I am saying this is that both ATI and HIS are blaming this as the problem. As it stands now I have given up on Vista and am only using XP Pro which is very very stable on my rig. I am not going to slag off Vista as I really do like it and find it very user freindly and really nice to look at, it's just a shame that the Graphics Card I bought wont work on it.
