DirectX 10 - Can't set VSYNC in Driver Any More?
Read something about Nvidia's driver page and it said that one of the changes in DirectX 10 is that the driver no longer allows you to set the VSYNC status, that it must be done at an application level, and that by default VSYNC is always on.
First, is that the case?
If so, is Triple Buffering a requirement for all DX10 games?
Yeah, it's great to have Vsync on to avoid tearing, but without Triple Buffering on, games can get pretty stuttery if they can't keep up with the refresh rate (like 60fps or 75fps, etc.)
Thanks

vsync no longer possible due the design of Vista, only if games support it ingame, not by the driver anymore

well, most of the time vsync is off here
I don't really need it, and the only games installed here: BF2142, Quake 4, NBA Live 2007, Half Life 2+other source games/mods

But if Vista forces it on unless a game specifically turns it off, are you going to be kinda screwed?

vista's changes has thrown a monkeywrench in graphics and sound.
so we just have to hope the hardware mfg's can work around it...

imo, the change is good,
Frankly i don't understand why anyone would WANT vsync disabled in the first place, and next thing, I was able to forcefully disable using the catalyst CCC, vysnc from being applied in some games. Where as the ones i still had issues with also remained the same, no different from what would happen in XP..
Not sure, but maybe it's nvidia specific?

You have a game that does not support TRIPLE BUFFERING. It taxes your system bigtime. You try running it at 1024x768 at 60hz on your LCD. The system is not able to push the game at a constant 60 frames per second.
What happens without triple buffering?
Each time it can't get to 60fps, it drops to 30fps, then 15fps if it can't keep 30 going. Total stutter-fest
That's why you want to disable Vsync.
