Benchmark of Ready Boost ready Memory
Preemptive, to my upgrade... to vista I bought a 1 gig stick of vista
ready boost memory corsair turbo flash. Just to see how it stacks up as people are wowing over the speed of these new sticks...useing hdtach...the difference is huge In contrast: My current 2GB OCZ rally (wich is fast): ![]() Turbo flash: ![]() look at the acess times! and trasfer rate! only draw back is it uses more cpu time... (of wich i have plenty) makes articals like this: Analysis: Vista's Ready Boost is no match for RAM | TG Daily saying things like "Although no USB 2.0 device offers the throughput of a fast hard drive (20-25 MB/s max for USB 2.0 Flash devices vs. 60-90 MB/s for hard drives)" look at thier test bed!!! ![]() now comes into question as not all flash ram is equal so results will varry.... memory that already exist that just happens to "meet" the requirements of ready boost. Is quite different then memory thats been mfg and tweaked, and designed for it to primarily be used for the feature alone.... My finding are very interesting indeed..... this could explain why some say how much it helps, others say it's slower. Other say they don't see a difference... makes all tests so far seem mute There is a big difference between "Compatible" and "designed for/ optumized for" Side note: there are even stupid people who have been using a "tweak" to force a device thats too slow to be allowed. The bechmarks built in for a reason. Becouse if it's not fast enough, it's pointless

while i'll agree yes.... .the speeds and whatnot are great in comparison to thiers.... the 35MB/s and access times aren't going to compare to that of a decent single hardrive today. When a SATA2 320gb 16mb cache is capable of 80MB/s as it's average, i highly doubt a 35MB/s flash drive is going to do as good a job.
Now if they can bump that up a fair bit higher, it'll be a completely different story.

or much less especailly oem systems wher they used 5400 rpm drives. Not everyone has such high end drives. Or systems! Heck my what was cutting edge 68 mb/s hitchi's still bottom out way down there twards the end of the disk. Not to mention, the hdd is then FREE to do larger files those long sequentail reads thier so good at. Not the small randoms, that will be off loaded to the flash drives... not to meantion they already said there wil be tweaks to the feature forth comeing.... for $20-$30 investment you can beat the "potential" os speedups even with out useing them on vista, it's step in the right direction for flash!

I just thought of some thing that would be nice for laptops. A pcmcia device that added such features since it's a bad idea to have some thing sticking out. Never mind the cost of 2Gig of ram especially if you're using a budget machine.

It can be removed easily and with no impact to your laptop. Therefore, if you're using your laptop for games and readyboost, you just insert the flash when you need it.

When looking for a usb flash drive to use with readyboost Access Time is the single most important thing to look at. Transfer rates are not important for the way readyboost works. Neon seems to have found a great one and so is the Crucial Gizmo Overdrive with .5ms access

here is the info that i used to read about the above Apacer flash drive (or might be another model?)...
i tried a few of flash drives from A-DATA, Corsair and Kingston, and i somehow like to see for myself how this Apacer drive work, but can't seem to find it yet. Quote:
