ati mobility 9700 question!

Hello,
Congratulation for the good forum, maybe i can have some help here!!!!!!
I have installed vista ultimate 32bit on my notebook: Clevo D520P:

P4 HT 3 Ghz
Chipset intel ich5
ATI radeon mobility 9700 128MB Ram dedicated
512 MB ram
80 GB harddisk
bluetooth integrated............

The installation went good and seems to be faster then the betas, however after the first boot, the machine is very very very slow!! all hardware seems to be correctly detected, also the videocard is running under the windows drivers (not the 43 error). it seems like a slowmotion: all is working but slowly, ie: put the mouse on an icon and after 5 seconds you get the effect you were waiting for (the icon is selected) try to move a window has the same effect. the window is moved but after 5/10 seconds and the moving action is very "choppy". If i rightclick on the desktop the menu comes up after the usual 5/10 sec.
I tried installing the ati ones (7.1) with no luck: installation went fine the CCC is working but slow as hell...... also tried the RC1 drivers with same effect
I tried upgrading the chipset software downloading directly from the intel website the new package but the results are the same....
I also tried installing the chipset software that clevo gives for xp and it installed and changed the drivers for the chipset but with no luck.........
everything i do is done very slowly and after 5/10 seconds......... IT'S a Shame..
However i resetted the bios values to default with no luck......upgrading the bios is a no go because the did not give an update for this machine......
What can i try do do? apart from uninstalling vista?
there are some parameters in the bios or CCC that can be set to override this behaviour?
The info panel of the card is giving the rights information on the adapter (model memory etc....) .The AGP controller (software) is installed..........
Maybe i'm mistaking but this smell like a non related 9700 drivers issue but maybe some chipset problem....

I give my best regard and i'm waiting for your help/opinion

TNX a lot
(sorry for mi english: i'm Italian)
