Just thought i would post my Windows Vista Ultimate Pictures

and

and

scores seem nice on the index aswell, to be perfectly honest vista runs great and i mean great, strangly enough vista for me is faster than xp, apart from games its on par with games sometimes faster again...
i do need a new cpu though as its crippleing me..
you can see my specs to the left of this post.

--------------------------------------

I wonder if a core2duo quad x6800 will get that cpu score to 5.9... we shall see as im buying one next month with a 680I chipset.

anyway just thought i would post a few pics.

Thanks for the pics!

I am really considering Vista when it is released on the 30th. I thought I would wait awhile, but I have some extra cash right now and feel like upgrading.
I noticed your computers specs and was just wondering how Home Premium 64 bit would run on my?

Core 2 Extreme X6800 (Dual Core - Q6700 is the quad) @ 3.5GHz raises the CPU score to 5.8

As for ultimate extras - they're not available yet - but a couple of things that microsoft have announced:

Dreamscape - instead of using a picture for your desktop, you can use a video.
Poker - extra game
Hyped-up photo program - will take two similar photos, pick the best bits and combine them into one photo

Plus they're going to add more over the coming years.... I'm glad I paid the extra £40 over business for ultimate. I'll be interested to see what else they add.

Hi there, for a start i wouldnt go for x64 anything yet untill the drivers mature more. just my opinion, stick to x86.

and as for your system, to be on the safe side and run the os at optimum your going to need a extra gig of ddr.

as for everything else you should be fine, even with aero enabled you should do fine.

Well... that depends on if you're buying OEM or Retail.

If you're buying oem - then go x64 for sure imo, otherwise you'll have to fork out the cost again if you want to move from X86 -> X64

Microsoft will only allow a driver to be signed if the company submits both X86 and X64 drivers to them... the 64bit support will be much better for Vista than it ever was for XP

no, I wouldnt touch 64 bit right now. the driver development is months behind the 32 bit. ive been fortunate to have been beta testing both for a long time now via MSDN. it was the same with XP.

32 bit vista is already well usable for a work os and will be viable for gaming in a few months. 64 bit will lag some way behind.

Only game I'm having a problem with under Vista is BF2142 - but apparently that's not 64bit only.

And 3DMark06 - openal32.dll to be specific.

Motherboard just works, XFi drivers working, 8800 drivers working.

No lock-ups so far.

I will be dual-booting with XP for a while to come yet though - just in case I do come accross something.

I'd much rather dual boot xp/vista 64 bit for the time being than be stuck with 32bit vista for 4/5 years. Paying this much for a piece of software - there's no way I'd purchase both 32+64.

So far i haven't seen that in action here.. but then again maybe it's part of the widgets? (i freaking hate that thing)

No... nothing to do with widgets.

On the taskbar, to the bottom left you'll see the return to desktop shortcut. To the right of that is the 3d flip shortcut.

Or you can just use the Windows button & tab together... it's an alternate version of alt & tab for task switching

Following on in the same vein I want you to consider something from a humourous point. You know when you have that moment when you hear a hand on your computer room door and your looking at something you shouldnt.
How many people are going to get caught out when they shrink the screen only for it to appear in a slightly smaller window in the background. Your gonna have to resort to the innocent look and the Oh my God I only typed in Kate Bushes greatest hits.

Lol lelisevis, your funny on the first post.

as for the second, no, i rarely every ALT+TAB, and when i do it's usually to try to get the hell out of a game or program that's gone full screen on me and has hung up.

Actually just to try JUST now, is the first time since using vista off and on for several months.

I wouldn't call that specific little dodad the ground breaking aero gui maximum capabilities put to the test dealy. I just never saw it before and didn't know what it was or why.

I haven't HAD a whole lot of time playing around in vista itself, i've been trying most of the time within vista, to full understand the setup/configuration/oddities and changes of vista more then doing anything else.

Actually the 3 things announced were

DreamScene - For now this allows any video to be used as long as you have the proper codec installed (oh and it must have the .mpg or .wmv extension, it doesn't matter if it really is one just as long as it has the right extension). It actually renders the scene as a DirectX mesh on the Desktop which means future updates will allow things like screensavers and such to be used as well. (Woohoo for all you aquarium lovers)

Hold'Em - This is basically the game of Texas Hold'Em, but thus far not quite as fun as watching it on TV or playing the XBox360 version.

Bitlocker Updates - This one is basically an add-on for Bitlocker to give you better functionality with the system.

Now the photo thing that was discussed is actually not an Ultimate Extra. It's an application from Microsoft Research called GroupShot.

At this time it's not being considered for UE & it's publicly available on the MS Research website, and yes it works on XP too

So that's the scoop on extras for now, all of this btw is publicly released information.

To find out more visit the Ultimate Extras team homepage:

WOW!
I still havent made up my mind! Home Premium or Ultimate!

I really only want Ultimate for the DreamScene, which I figure a 3rd party software will develop the same sort of thing, and I could pay the full price for Ultimate or I was thinking of Home Premium and 1GB of RAM so I can have 2GB.
What do you guys think??
