Maybe your DVD is bad and some files cannot be read. You could try cloning it to another disk.

i had a similar issue with my download of the iso. Redownloaded from Micorsoft and this time ran hashcalc to ensure it was complete, then i burned at a slower rate than my dvd drives' max speed. All worked fine.

RE

I had the same issue here, Vista could not (Clean) install, got an error message.

I solved the problem to set in the BIOS The DVD Drive as 1st boot device, and the
Drive where i want to install Vista as 2nd device.

I disabled all other drives and dvd devices.

After done that Vista Install succeeds...

After Install i set my normal boot device settings.

Have you run the Vista readiness tool? That would be a good start - there's a lot of compatibility information there.

Looking over your hardware, your mb is Vista ready - and Sapphire has toll-free tech support, so that's one avenue. There have been issues with GeForce cards, and I notice your card has onboard video - have you tried removing your addon card to see if that helps? You could always install it once you have the system running. I would imagine your Audigy should be fine, I managed to get my Vista installed with mine in the machine.

Is your original install ruined? You could always try a clean dual boot install. I'm running Vista and XP in a dual-boot setup, just in case.

No, what I meant was did you try turning on your onboard graphics and temporarily pulling the GeForce card?

and

Did you run the Vista tool, and if yes, what were the results?

Wow, that's an old error. I've seen that one pop up with Win2K, XP, and Server 2003. Normally I usually see that when Windows has an issue with the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface). This can pop up either with the OS improperly detecting USB devices thinking they are more complicated hardware directly related to the board itself (but it might just be an IBM mouse), or with trying to detect hardware, such as a PCI device, and failing (as it goes through the board bios to detect everything).

There are a couple things to try.

1) Be sure that your bios is up-to-date.

2) Remove any external "non essential" USB devices (if you have a USB mouse/keyboard trying using a USB to PS2 adaptor until after the OS is installed), and any PCI cards.

3) Take a read on the issue in regards to XP right HERE. The resolution area of this article where you bypass the ACPI HAL for the Standard HAL seems to do the trick most of the time. Not always though.

BTW, give the "More Information" section a read too as it lists other possiblities to what can cause that stop message to come up.

Lastly, there are sections that deal with ACPI within the bios (most of the time, anyways). You might want to give those sections a once over, and try out different settings (such as resetting the IRQ handlings, manually setting IRQs, using an older or newer ACPI controller.. different settings appear depending on the board/bios). I'll look into the manual for your board when I get the chance, and see if there is anything specific to change that might help.

that error is almost always caused by hardware problems, and it has been in the past, indicated by Microsoft and then users as being caused by BIOS problems. however, if you have already checked your hardwares, then you may want to try a flat installation - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928902 i don’t remember whether or not you have already tried it.

Flat install - VERY handy to know! Thanks!

Funster - this might be a good avenue for you - I know you've got a lot of things to try. I recall that you couldn't install with a different system, so it just might be the media. A flat install will definitely go a long way to checking that out.
