??? Oblivion crashing under Vista RC 2 (x64 version)

I downloaded Windows Vista RC 2 (the x64 version) when it became availible from Microsoft. I have tested 3 games under Vista to date: Half Life 2, Civilization 4, and Oblivion. Except for occasional flicking of a full screen image under Oblivion and Civ 4 (attributed to having the Aero theme in use with these Direct3D games), I had not a problem until recently, when Oblivion crashed. Here is the error report Vista generated:

Problem signature:

Application Name: Oblivion.exe

If anyone can make sense of this report, and can enlighten me as to what it means, I would appreciate it.

My current PC rig:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
2 GB DDR Ram (1x 1 GB stick, 2x512 MB sticks)
2x250 GB SATA hard drives
Sapphire X1800XT PCIe video card w/ 512 MB video memory

Uncle is an unknown quantity at this point

First of all any video drivers for vista are beta, thats all you have to know. I'm running the legit vista and even with the betas all my games including Oblivion run as good as they did on xp.

backup your save games under My documents/My games/oblivion, then delete files there, then copy back your save games. that'll solve the problem

Nachbrenner will become famous soon enough
System Specs

Coincidentially i bought the game today and updated it to v1.2.0416 (May 07)
Of course i'm using Vista64 SP1 + updates meanwhile.

At launch it doesn't recognise a 2 year old Nvidia 8800GTX

Then it crashed after the monologue of the emperor.
After examination of C:\{user}\Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini
It appears my rig needs this setting:
bForce1XShaders=1

I guess this means "force shader model 3", SM3 is equal for both ATI and Nvidia as opposed to SM2.0a vs. SM2.0b

Ingame all 3D appeared plain white so i had to disable effects, i.e. no bloom, no HDR

If i experience more issues i let you know.
