yeah I'm actually quite pleased with it - just proves it's got plenty of power for what I need it to do (which isn't all that much)

5.9 score for my new rig; old rig was 4.5 i think, being a single core A64, the cpu's the weakest link.

It's weird how a 4870x2 gets the same score as a 9600GT... Maybe they should start updating the numbers?

I agree I don't have a 4870x2 but thought my 4870 should have scored higher than my 9600GT at 5.9

Maybe they should start using ratios normal people use I think an index of "6.0" is not logical. Maybe out of 10?

I can do hexadecimal as well
(At least its logical)

I hope so as well because running my system which is NOT cutting edge I score 5.9 on all but CPU and even my lowly E6550 gets a 5.7

I think one point I was making Bro that you may have missed is logical values. I am a binary guy and numbers like "6.0" as a maximum range for something involving digital electronics confuses me

Catch my drift?

Re: Post your Windows Vista Experience Index

i was expecting the numbers to be valued in either highest as 5's or 10's..... weird about the 5.9's i agree.... but then again i think the orginal system was highest at 5 and then they released it with 5.9......

Re: Post your Windows Vista Experience Index

They are prolly not going to change the 5.9; I feel that windows 7 will have an uncapped value though. Anyone try window7 beta and does it have a window 7 experience index??

Windows 7 has an index and it goes above 5.9. My 8800GT is rated as 6.3 IIRC. Processor is 6.5 etc etc. Don't know the limits as my PC is a year old now.

7.9 is the limit on Windows 7 and you it takes a pretty wild machine to hit 7.9. For starters you have to run 64bit and over 4gb ram. You have to run at least a quad core cpu, properly a eight-core

Tech ARP has an article about it: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.a...tno=622&pgno=1

Good luck on hitting 7.9 :P

It's not perfect, but it makes sense. If your CPU is very slow, you won't be able to run the latest games even if you have the latest GPU. Similarly, a low end GPU will mean nothing will run well even if you have a $1000 CPU.

Of course, the score doesn't mean all that much, because high resolutions and FSAA can bring a high scoring GPU to a crawl. It's not obvious how they're calculated anyway, and I don't think its possible to give them a lot of meaning.

The GeForce 6600 I had in this PC while I was installing it got a score of 3.9. It gave me 10 fps in City of Heroes in a pretty closed place with default settings at a resolution of 1600x1200 (in a desktop window). The Radeon 3870 gives 60 fps at the same place (limited by the screen refresh rate).

For the CPU, my old PC got 4.8 for the CPU, an Athlon X2 3800+. My new PC, with a Phenom II 710, gets 5.7 (and is the limiting subscore). I have no idea what this means. Is the scale logarithmic so that's a big difference, or does the Phenom not do much faster in what's tested, or perhaps that's because these tests don't take full advantage of the 3 cores?
