??? Faulty Catalyst Install?

Ok, couple of problems.

Firstly

Whenever i install the catalyst drivers (7.6) i get these error's:

Quote:
Driver Install: the INF file was not found
Driver Install: the specified driver package was not installed for matching devices
CCC installs fine and i run games at the framerates i would expect with this build (11k odd in 3Dmark06 with an e6600 @ 3Ghz)

But these 2 errors worry me as i might not be getting the full benefit of my card.

I have used the usual suspects: driver cleaner pro, catalyst uninstall utility to remove the drivers before i try a fresh install, same problem every time and if i try to install under safe mode i get an error saying there is no hardware installed that catalyst supports

Secondly (and may be linked to the first problem)

I was under the impression from various technology forums that the 7.6 Cats fixed the fog issue in various games like HL:2 and COH, however i am still experiencing the very anoying fog.

System Spec : 2900XT // e6600 // GA-P35C-DS3R // 2Gb Geil DDR2 // 850Watt Antec Quattro // Windows VISTA64 Ultimate

Cheers in advance.

System Specs

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!

The INF error you're getting indicates (to me) that the video card may have been made by another vendor and that the Hardware ID for that card is not yet included in the Installation package.

If I'm reading the second error correctly, the installation package has used a 'substitute' Hardware ID in order to complete the installation.

So, at this point, post the manufacturer and other important information about your new video card. It would also be helpful to post a trouble report to ATI/AMD about this to make sure the card is included in future versions. (Although, the vendor should have already provided this information to them.)

The fog problem may get remedied once the correct information is added for the installation.

Good luck!

Hi, thanks for the welcome.

I believe you are right, my card was manufactured by Powercolor, however Powercolor is not listed on the ATI site as a manufacturer of the 2900 series.

I currently have an open ticket with the ATI support, i will update it with this new info.

I agree with DYRE the INF error is most likely a missing ID in the driver. However the drivers have a batch of manufacturer specific entries as well as some generic entries to ensure that the driver will always install regardless who made the card. Occasionaly we miss an ID. This happens most with the very new products.

What we need to know is the device IDs that your card actually has. You can get these a few ways. In CCC information section look at the HW info. You will see something like.....

Device ID 4E44
Vendor 1002
Subsystem ID 4F72
Subsystem Vendor ID 1002

Just report what shows for your graphics card.

Also in the SW section it will show a 2D driver version. Please report that number as well. (These strings can be copied and pasted, which is a little less painful :-)

The ATI problem report also contains this info and generates a text file.

Another interesting idea is that the 2900 includes HDMI audio hardware. This uses a driver that is not present in the display driver downloads and may lead to the INF error with the HW not found message. The HDMI AUDIO driver is located on a different page.

Let us know and good luck.

As you can see from the thread we never heard back from the OP so I don't know what his problem actually was.

Perhaps you can provide a few details on the problem you are having and the system details so we can determine what might be happening in the system?

Thanks

Hi, this problem was resolved for me with the 7.7 Catalyst Drivers (also had no problems with the 7.8 Catalyst when they were released)

Sorry for the late reply.

Here is my problem I Have dual Sapphire cards and get the dredded ( Driver Install: the INF file was not found) Error. I have talked to ATI a number of times and they have no clue. Sapphire uses the original ATI drivers so there is no mod specific for theses cards. I also included my report.xml file so maybe one of you guys could help. I also found that listed in the reports was that Other detected devices report is that it sees ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series. which I have no clue where that comes from because my cipset is the 1600 series.

here is the error report.
