I too am having the same issue with the 7.3 driver under Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Everything is fine once I revert back to the 7.2 driver. I have the PCI Express X1950 Pro and the Samsung SyncMaster 915N LCD connected using a DVI to VGA converter.
Devices that I have connected using USB are: Canon 5200F Scanner HP Laserjet 1012 Printer X-Arcade Joystick Logitech Dual Action Gamepad Logitech G7 Cordless Laser Mouse using Windows driver iPod dock |

Hi, interestingly I have received this reply from ATI today @ 19.19:
" This issue has been reported by some end users, the current workaround is to install the Catalyst 7.2 drivers and wait for the Catalyst 7.4 drivers later this month." ChrisC

Try this, go into the Start Menu, then into Startup, RIGHT CLICK the BAT file that is listed there and click RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR The error code 5 access denied should then be prevented and the service will start properly. I'm trying to find a way to allow the Startup Bat File full access, but i'm not sure how.

People with the BSOD and need a hot fix,
Try this http://files.filefront.com/ATIExtEve.../fileinfo.html Follow the directions, it's a much more similified BAT file, no having to run around and set any services a certain way, this bat file will do it all, Just download to the desktop, right click the bat and select RUN AS ADMIN, and then allow it to do the work. It'll automatically set the service to manual mode (so that when you restart, you won't BSOD) and then it'll START the service. So the only thing you have to do then is apon a restart or a fresh boot up, you'll have to right click, run as admin, and then your good to go. Unfortuneatly, within Vista, the Startup Start Menu folder idea doesn't work if you have the whole User Access Control system turned on. So you'll HAVE to do it the desktop, right click run as admin method until i figure out a way to either bypass or get granted access through a bat file to set the service without having to run as admin.

I have done some more testing:
AK38n Shuttle Via KT333ce Athlon XP 2000+ 1.5GB Corsair WD120 HD onboard audio onboard via rhine II A97p Fic 9700pro AGP 128mb ATI External event disabled in services no CCC installed 7.14.10.830 RTM OK aero glass enabled WEI 2.9 7.14.10.833 BSOD 0x000116 8.333.0.0 BSOD 0x000116 8.342.0.0 BSOD 0x000116 8.351.0.0 BSOD 0x000116 Only the original Vista RTM shipping driver works. All the ones that BSOD'ed I booted twice to see if they would come up the second time, but none did. I also tested with various bios settings that effect video with no effect on the BSOD's : PnP OS on/off UC vs UCWC shadow vs no shadow 1/2 T command rate etc, etc the CUV4X-DLS w/ via Apollo 694X and 2 x 1G PIII and 1GB ram A97p Fic 9700pro as above The machine mirrors the BSOD's in the above list except 7.14.10.830 RTM does not enable Aero Glass and only gives a WEI of 1.0 JohnY2 I hope this is useful Last edited by JohnY2; Apr 3, 2007 at 05:07 PM. Do I still get the BSOD if I unplug the ehome receiver? Dunno. I refuse to waste my time troubleshooting the problem further. My system is back to being perfectly stable with Cats 7.2. |

you know, if someone is going to take the time to "find the culprit" they'd get a little more detailed.
Seeing as it appears to be as easy as delaying the utility from starting up so quickly will prevent the BSODs.....

Not always Judas, I've had this set bluescreen on me even with that service delayed.
If you read back and look, you'll see the exact error code. |

I have problems with Catalyst 7.3 too.
I haven't read about this problem and tried to work around my self. I runned "Use the most recent settings that worked" and was able to get in Vista in normal mode. Then i uninstalled the CCC and display driver seperattely (because in unisnstall options showed only CCC uninstall option). Then tried to install 7.3 again. But I was encountered a problem that install wasn't successiful, because setup shows error " Driver install: the INF file was not found", and after rebooting system, the games and Aero runs fine, but i can't open the CCC at all, and strange, that after right mouse click, there is showing CCC option, but in taskbar there are no CCC icon at all, however I'm no able to run CCC, after clicking on it firstly using right mouse click, nothing happens at all except on some seconds is showing Vista's blue circle. ![]() Is there any way how to reinstall driver, and make after it a successiful CCC installation? My system: Vista Ultimate 64, Core 2 Duo E6600, Gigabyte DS4 mobo, 2Gb Ram, ATI X1900GT, WD 320Gb HDD, Creative X-fi extreme music. |

I'm aware of that error code, while yes it's a problem, i can't say one way or another if it's directly related to the same things that alot of us are experiecing.. From what i could tell, majority of people get by without a BSOD by simply disabling or setting the service to manual, you can't however set it to delayed automatic.... that won't work.

Man, I reverted back to 7.2, and I am still getting the 0x00000a BSOD. Each time, Windows Error report reports the issue, and says it is caused by the ATI graphics driver. Well before it said graphics driver, but now it does indeed say ATI. I've uninstalled everything, deleted ATI directories rebooted. Then I installed 7.2 and installed those and rebooted.

Got Aeroglass running on my CUV4X-DLS (Dual 1.0G PIII's, 1GB mem Via Apollo Pro 694X (think KT133A for duals)) with the 8.31.100.321 driver and some registry flailing. Winsat still gives a rating of 1.0, but flip3d, taskbar previews and title bar transparency are all working. Still investigating and I will post more details later.

John, i've nearly the same kind of system, only with a Radeon 9550 in it, and out of the box, while one built by ati 9550 would work and install properly with any vista ati driver, the other which is another brand of 9550, wouldn't get detected at all and refused to install..
course the vista supplied driver worked flawlessly.

Hi, I get the impression that ATI aren't going to 'fix' this issue until the 7.4's come out. I'd need a guarettee from them that the bsod will be fixed as it involves the potential for data loss...

You are incorrect Sir. We're trying to get a fix posted on the website ASAP. I don't think it will need to wait until Cat 7.4. It will likely be a hotfix article...
Cheers!

Are there any suggestions to getting this BSOD fixed? What I don't get, is why I'm getting them after uninstalling 7.3 and reinstalilng 7.2. Microsoft has my dump files, which hopefully get forwarded to ATI.
This is so frustrating, I can be watching a video, or writing a paper and it will just BSOD because of the display driver (thank God that word auto saves). |

Try and uninstall the Microsoft C++ SDK (if it's listed)

Well, it looks like others have run into the same problem with Via Chipsets and ATi Catalyst drivers. If a particuilar version doesn't BSOD it gives a Windows Experience Index of 1.0, but Aero can still be enabled. Doesn't seem to matter what ATi Card or what Via chipset. Someone else even reported the "D3D device could not be created" error when issuing 'winsat DWM' at a cmd prompt. For more info see:
