The following section provides information on new features introduced in this release of Catalyst™.

OpenGL CrossFire™ Support Under Windows Vista

Catalyst™ 7.3 introduces OpenGL CrossFire™ support for the entire ATI Radeon™ X1000 product series under Microsoft Vista. Users will see significant performance gains in a number of applications when running in CrossFire™ mode under Windows Vista.

CrossFire™ Enhancements for Windows Vista

Catalyst™ 7.3 includes CrossFire™ enhancements for Windows Vista that enable the Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR) CrossFire™ rendering mode by default, enabling performance benefits for all AFR compatible applications immediately (including newly released applications that have not been officially profiled for CrossFire™). Future Catalyst™ releases will add further CrossFire™ performance gains once new applications have been profiled specifically for CrossFire™.

Performance Improvements

Dark Messiah Might and Magic performance improves 12.5% or greater on all Radeon™ X1000 series configurations when running in CrossFire™ mode under both the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. Larger gains of 60% or more can be seen on high end products.

Resolved Issues for the Windows Vista Operating System

• 3DMark2006: Enabling AA to 4x no longer result in an error message being displayed when running the benchmark under the 64 bit version of Windows Vista. Further details can be found in topic number 737-26633

How is it possible that the Armed Assault leak is not under known issues. On the official forums, they claim ATi know about it. Performance in that game is crap (actually to date its the only game who refuse to run at maxed out settings on my computer - and with that said, i have Oblivion, STALKER, FEAR, CoD2, GRAW, TestDriveUnlimited etc etc installed). I dont need to lose any more performance from a leak aswell.

Also me and my friend wanted to play No one lives forever 2 but were met by rediculos amounts of wierd "stuttering" picture (e.g. while driving stuff). We both reported the issue on ATis page (he on a X1950Pro, me on the X1800XTPE) but that also isn´t on known issues.

I know that´s a very old game but still..

STALKER seems to still have major stuttering issues, but i think thats more of a game issue rather than driver errors (ALL of my friends have the same amount of stuttering - doesnt matter if their cards are ATi or Nvidia).

Other than that, the drivers seems to be just fine

Again, the two problems I would like to be fixed are the Armed Assault leak (and maybe hope for improved performance) and NOLF2 perfomance.

STALKER has it's own issues not driver or card related. Turn off HDR completely in the game and it will run just fine. Tired of people blaming this on drivers.

I'd like some OpenGL compatibility and good performance on Vista. As it stands now, even XMoto is choppy and games based on Doom 3 engine downright unplayable (think Quake on 386). I may not have the hottest card around (9500Pro), but they all worked fine before Vista; and D3D games run almost XP-flawlessly, so it's kind of funny.

A) Bear in mind that these drivers were written a month ago and would have different known issues than the drivers ATI are currently writing.
B) Known issues on the list are issues which ATI have verified as their problem to sort out and ones they can replicate.

When I had 7.2 I got 30-70 fps on Stalker And freezeing every 15 minutes, Now I get 20-25 fps If I am lucky and I freeze 10seconds to 5 minutes into the game. And the loading is slower. I don't care about anything else. The Freeze is so bad I have to restart the computer.

Heres my specs, Incase your wondering if my computer is shit

Sapphire X1950XT 256mb,
Amd Athlon 3500+ 2.4ghz OC
1.5gb of ram.

Have you tried adding the game as an exception to your DEP? Try this and see what happens:
System Properties
Advance Tab
Performance: Settings
Data Execution Prevention
Check the option for "Turn on DEP for all prgrams and services except those I select"
Add Stalker.exe to the box.
Apply
Ok
Reboot

See what happens then.

Also, I am interested in knowing if all 2-3 sticks of your ram is from the same make, model and manufacture?

DEP has a nasty habit of terminating games that may have some internal coding flaws. It can very from game to program but when something doesn't jive right DEP assumes it's a threat and shut it off. Depending on how healthy XP is on your system you can experience a CTD, BSOD, slow downs or freezing. This is not always the case with everyone and just because you get that doesn't always mean it's DEP problem. However, the way DEP is used is still a mystery. DEP appears to be more intrusive in games and programs then people realize. For whatever reason it's more pronounced to cause probelms with people who use AMD cpus then Intel. AMD cpus use NX bit, which stands for No eXecute. Although I am only guessing here I believe that some coding instructions are found in a AMD's cpu section of memory designated with the NX attribute. When a coding instructions resides their it cannot be executed or executed correctly.


Their is no real warning when DEP stops a program (an obvious flaw on MS's part). I as well as others have never seen a DEP HAS STOP THIS PROGRAM message come up on the screen. However, as long as your keep your anti virus/anti adware programs up to date there should be no real problem when you exclude a program from DEP. A lot of developers (worth their salt) normally disable DEP completely when coding.

On the other hand if it's a hardware issue it could be either ram on your motherboard:
-using mismatch ram
-defective ram stick

Or a problem with your video card's ram if your gpu is registering normal temps under load. There is no temp probe on a video card ram. Some are properly cooled while others are not (normally found on Nvidia cards). Over heating ram can cause all sorts of problems if they are not cooled correctly IMO (from what I've read).

I will have our benchmark lab set up a system with similiar specs to yours and run Cat 7.2 vs Cat 7.3 and measure performance. It is not a known issue on our end right now so we will take a look at it.

Like the ole saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
DEP is very pronouced in AMD for some reason. Although you can get a definition and explaination of DEP there is a lot more involved such as bios settings which uses Nx bit and your boot.ini file that uses /noexecute.
There is claim this is suppose to stop virus attack but it's level of intrusivenes in games and programs and, how you have to go to 2 different areas (bios and boot.ini) to just enable, disable it is a mystery of what it really does. In a nutshell DEP kicks in (without telling you) when some level of code instructions wants access to a certain portion of cpu's memory that is being occupied by Nx (AKA DEP). Sometimes you get a simple Overstack error (and another that I cannot remember). Other times it's CTD, BSOD, and freezing. In other cases your program/game will slow down, etc. But again, this does not always mean it's a DEP problem. Does this mean we need to add Cat to the exclusion list? Let ATI staff test it first and make a public announcement about it. ATI staff know their code better then we can so let them investigate it.
If you use the DEP to exclude certain programs and games I highly suggest you scan your system for virus and ad-ware.

Catalyst 7.3 doesn't detect my Mobility X1600 in Vista Ultimate (while 7.2 does perfectly).

And on startup, I get a "The operation executed succesfully" (or something like that) error message...

This is only for XP (not sure about Vista).

But if you have XP those instructions will take you there.

CATALYST maker

The manufcaturer of your laptop has decided they dont want catalyst to work on your laptop. For a laptop to work with catalyst, the oem has to "opt in" to be part of catalyst.

7.1 and 7.2 worked because we didnt have the blocking mechanism in place, but now we have to play by the rules.

sorry, i wish all manufacturers let their laptops work with catalyst.

for those of you who want to try to get catalyst working on your laptop please try our free application http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/ - ATI don't offically support this but we have our own tools forum if you need to ask questions about this procedure.

Also ive noticed some posts with swearing. I know guys that it's unfortunate that not everything works all the time (I should know ive been battling STALKER on vista with nvidia for a week), but I would like to hope we could all share our problems and get support in a pleasant manner.

It just started up again And my system is cooled by Liquid cooling system it stay's under 30C all the time. ALOT of people are having this same problem right now. So I doub't it's hardware. My Ram is pretty cool too.

Damn, that's a big disappointment from Acer (laptop in question is a Travelmate 8204WLMi). I guess I'll have to resort to other ways...

My only other suggestion would be to test your ram using memtest86
OR
Put your CPU on default clocks and see how that fairs out. Other then that, I am out of ideas
