That's correct.

It's tricky to roll back though since in Vista you can't really uninstall the drivers in safemode.

I never had to test that scenario when I testing Vista so now I'm wondering which genius made that decision.

Funnily enough I also spoke too soon on my wife's system. The LCD panel stopped working after about 12 hours

So now I've gotta get a new PSU to see if that fixes it.

Up to now, fingers crossed, no issues in Vista except for when I try to create a profile CCC crashes, but lets face it that CCC thing is never going to work 100%.

Looks like I gotta go back to 7.1 as 7.3 is giving me the same BSOD that 7.2 did when enabling Crossfire (0x0000010E Video Memory Manager has encountered an unexpected error).

Actually I knew 7.3 was going to be a problem during the install. When it tries to install the video card drivers, the app hangs and I lose all USB devices (including my mouse). I have to install the drivers manually and then install CCC afterwards. Didn't have to do this with 7.2

This was tried on clean install of Vista 32-bit.

System is as follows:

DFI Infinity 975x
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
ATI X1800XT Crossfire Edition
MSI X1800XT
2GB Patriot RAM
1 x Samsung SATA3.0 160GB
1 x Samsung SATA3.0 500GB
Windows Vista Ultimate 32Bit

7.1 works fine. Strangely enough I was able to get 7.2 working fine under Windows XP. Haven't had a chance to see if 7.3 works in it though.

I actually wish we could separate the driver threads between Windows Versions. Those of us not using Vista (yet) could actually be encouraged to stay away from it longer due to all the problems with it here.

Anyway, I DO have a problem that seems to reoccur with each new updated drivers: Everytime I reboot the system I get the old default Windows Desktop settings. I don't use those and prefer to set my own.

Is there anyway to make my settings stick sooner than after I've rebooted for a week or so?

Hi, I am also getting the exact same BSOD with these drivers and vista, which I didn't get with the 7.2's. I have also tried a fresh install to no avail, these drivers have a serious issue that ATI really need to look at...

Ok my first post here. First time I installed the 7.3's CCC wouldn't start. Then I uninstalled everything using the Ati uninstall utility. Ran CrapCleaner, ran DriverCleaner PE, rebooted in Vista in 640*480 resolution (F8 during start-up), installed the driver rebooted and CCC starts *Yippie*.

Although everything seems fine, the driver won't switch between 2D and 3D speeds. All 3D apllications run using 2D speeds.

Anyone got a solution for this?

Specs are in the sig.

I cant believe this a set of Vista32 drivers that are actually stable Ive been stressing these 7.3 since yesterday and they seem to be working lovely, great quality, nice speed, all games running top notch.
There was something a little iffy with those 7.2 though, when I tried to uninstall them they crashed Vista.
I might for once give a set of Cat drivers a positive vote.

Agreed, can we have a:
Official Cat 7.X XP
Official Cat 7.X Vista

Poll? Some of us have no interest in Vista while others know that Vista (by design) is not 3rd party driver friendly. And, would like to know how well the Cat does using xp? Most people who respond don't indicate if they have XP or Vista and have no way to gauge the votes when they say it's good or bad based on OS (because there is no OS indicated). I mean early Vista adapters shouldn't influence XP users of what could be a good Cat release. Vista owners have problems with most 3rd party drivers to begin with:
ATI
Nvidia
Sound Blaster
Logitech
etc
and several other drivers out there. Therefore, having problems with Cat is not an isolated incident. I am looking for isolated incidents with a stable OS, XP.

<to any Mod or Admin>

I agree in a sense but to be honest, this is the first BSOD I've had with Vista. It is a far superior OS than XP. XP would BSOD much easier IMHO.

Yup my first BSOD with Vista too. I was hoping the BSOD would at least have some cool new graphics at least. Like maybe a gif of my PC getting raped by Bill Gates or something. Meh.

Mr ATI Man,

Hi, this is my first post because I have been searching invane trying to find a way to get 7.3 working with vista. I am having the same blue screen problem as some other people here.

After updating to 7.3 display drivers system will get stuck in a continous reboot, bluescreen, reboot cycle and the only way to stop it is to go safemode and use system restore to roll backup.

AMD x2 64 4600+
74Gig Raptor
2Gig Giel 667 DDR2
DFI Infinity NF Ultra II M2
ATI X1900

I for the life of me cant work out what is except for the possibility of DEP???

Please HELP!!!

But seriously, I just bought an Acer 8215WLMi and upgraded to Vista. Why the heck shouldn't I be able to have the latest driver?!? Acer NEVER updates their drivers. The latest on their site is the freaking RTM betas... Sigh

Why in the world wouldn't they want to allow the Catalyst drivers? It would save them a lot of time since the Catalyst fixes problems that people would call them to get fixed.

========================================

Will install Saturday and will post my experience. As always will use the drivercleaner method of installing.

Am using 7.1 since I was unable to use Cross fire with 7.2s. CCC/7.2 itself seem fine but I was unable to determine whether crossfire was a driver or CCC issue. Did report the issue to ATI
...............It is unfortunate that most posters are Vista users so we XP users have no idea what to expect or whether our experience is unusual etc.

As always this is a great site!

Well, thought it to good to be true, these drivers have to be the zhittyest out of the 3 sets of 7.xx for Vista
Every game Ive tried up to now jerks and splutters and stalls for that long I'm thinking its crashed, not only that but the graphic quality is no where nears good as 7.2, so Ive rolled back to 7.2 and alls okay. What is wrong with ATI these days, the drivers are abysmal.

There is a seperate thread created for Vista problems with the 7.3 set of drivers.

Vista users please use that thread to whine and moan in

Still using 7.2 and ATT with no hotkey poller and haven't been happier...

Yes, please do
Since some believe Vista to be superior to XP, right? If that was remotely true you wouldn't be crying that ATI, Nvidia, Sound blaster, etc drivers don't work. You would simply depend on what Vista give you and be done with it

XP
x1900xtx
Cat 7.3
24" monitor

I am pretty happy with this cat. I updated from Cat 6.10 to Cat 7.3. It is a bit faster in BF2. Just Cause demo, CS:S and DOD:S seem to run fine. My only concern is the black screen/reboot I got when control/alt/dlt out of BF2. . That never happened in cat 6.10. This only happened once as I only tried it once. I will try again later just to see what happens. However, after a few rounds of BF2 online I am pretty impressed with these drivers so far.

Edit: I control/alt/delete out of BF2 several more times without out any problems now. I did it about 5-7 times without issue. So far, these are the best drivers since 6.3 muhahaha!!!
Cats that I had no issue with
6.3
6.10
7.3
All others either would not allow me to properly OC or black screen whenever I played BF2 or some other game.

I run XP and I have to say these 7.3 drivers have cleared up all the errors I was getting with 7.2.

On top of that they seem to have the lightest footprint on system resources of any Cataylst i've ever used - only one instance of MOM.exe and CCC.exe running @ 5000k a-piece, the CCC starts up quicker & doesn't they don't badger my firewall at all like 7.2 did every 5 minutes.

On the whole the best set of cataylst I've ever had On my rig

XP user here

Installed today using Driver Cleaner Net "process"

So far very good set. I was unable to enable crossfire at all with 7.2. I then went back to 7.1 but I could use Crossfire with limited games. EU III, Civ 4 and Railroads had however major graphics anomalies.

Additional 7.1 drivers had for me a problem with going from 2d "speeds" to 3D GPU Speeds and sticking.. so far clocking away at 621/720 in 3D.

With this set so far I can play those games with no problems . So I am very happy
about this set.

BTW I used ATI Tool to control fan settings on my cards and I do not overclock. Have VIsta Premium Software but looks like I will put off converting for several months

Bit the bullet and updated from 6.9 to 7.3 (remove/install method) - even with an older card, I'd say these are quite snappy.

One gripe about the install procedure, it's REALLY bad if you have a firewall or security monitor with process control, as there are SO many "network enabled process launches" to OK.

XP users. Thanks for your reports! I will update to these and give them a test drive in my games too. I'm playing Sims 2, C&C 3, and Gal Civ 2 DA - so my experience will be a bit different (but hopefully fast and stable).
