Vista Drivers

Hi there, I have vista rtm, and an ati 9600. the windows wdm drivers won't work and the latest beta drivers from ati won't work either, does anyone have any ideas?

I just get the error message 43 saying the driver could not start.

i came here thinking that this was for an NVIDIA card, but since it's not i won't be of much help. yea yea, i know i have an ATI card and all, but i'm mostly out of the loop when it comes to ATI drivers. NVIDIA on the other hand, that's a bit, well, easier for me

.

Unfortunately ATI have yet to release a good set for Vista. however they have some nice sets which I have tested. however they arent publically available yet. Hopefully they wont hang around too long.

Zardon, do these new sets have the ability to crossfire in them????

Well considering that i thought i saw a article stating that ati were the first to have crossfire working in vista.... i would suspect that the final RTM version of the drivers would have Crossfire and generally FULL features/support.

After closer examination, when I show hidden devices, it shows that my secondary display is working ok, its the primary that is not, please,please does anyone have any good news for me

Thanks. Can you let me know if Media Centre in Vista works OK with the ones you've been testing at least? Currently doesn't work in the RTM betas.....

Did you try use Catalyst beta drivers?
I'm using then and until now it's better than XP. At least playing Carbon.

Yup. They're pooched. When you try launching Media Center in Vista, it'll launch and you'll get sound but no video. Using the default ATI drivers in Vista works fine.

Nope, they´re not. My media center works just fine with Ati rtm beta drivers.

Media centre works ok even with the available Vista drivers at least on my X1900. You are probably missing some video codecs.

This is true, Microsoft made a mistake on their newsgroups by stating that Media Center came with the codecs needed, it does not. I always install WinDVD on my system and I then choose to use that codec for Vista's Media Center and it works flawlessly.

I still can't get the ATI drivers to work from the website, I am stuck using those that come with Vista RTM...

Impossible. The default Vista drivers work fine. It's the ATI RTM's that bork it. Once I uninstall the ATI drivers and stick with the default Vista drivers, all is good. It's definitely the drivers....

that's no way to thank us. we tried to help you, but you need to understand that Vista is still in beta form, even if it is the RTM. Even after Vista is officially released, don't expect that drivers will be readily available immediately thereafter. If they are, i'm sure they won't be much better off than what is available right now. Driver support for both ATI and NVIDIA gfx cards will take time to fully develop and give the support you and other people need.

Keeping to winXP would be the best alternative until then.
