Thoughts on Windows 7

In a word; amazing! Been using it for almost two weeks now, and I love it. I had used the RC version some months back, loved it back then too, though at the time there were performance issues with a game of mine. Glad to see that not only was it worked out, but the OS as a whole has become even speedier in the release version. Other than performance, my favorite change is how they redesigned the taskbar. I still love how you can switch between and close windows through the little previews, and the way you can pin program icons directly on the taskbar. That is easily the best feature Microsoft has offered to date, IMHO. (And yes, I know it was taken from the Mac. )

However, I was most impressed and amazed when I installed it on my sister's old clunker; a 1.3 GHz Celeron with 512MB RAM that was my family's first computer. (My sis got it after I built my mom a new computer). I was pleasantly surprised when not only did it run well, but it was much faster than even a clean install of XP! It both boots faster and is much snappier than XP ever was on that old thing.

So, needless to say, I'll be sticking with Windows 7. It is easily Microsoft's best OS to date IMO.

Re: Thoughts on Windows 7

Windows 7 is what Vista should have been but since SP2 was released I have not had any problems with Vista. I'm not in any hurry to switch over.

It's unfortunate that Vista received such negative press. Marketing was terrible, driver support was worse (not Microsoft's fault) and now there are tons of people who hate on Vista without ever even using it.

Oh well.

I'm curious to see what Windows 8 holds for us.

Oh, I agree about Vista. My sis only had XP because Vista didn't run well on her computer, but mine and my mom's computers both had Vista before we switched to 7. And I must say, while I think Vista was a great OS, 7 is so much better. I love how responsive it is, boots up quick, and the UI changes are icing on an already great cake.

Absolutely.

I'll probably keep Vista round until someone goes terribly wrong with the install (which has yet to happen 'cause I'm S.M.R.T!) or I upgrade my entire system in Q1 2010 - whichever comes first.
