Win-7 32bit & 64bit for RAM Problem

Hello friends,
I want to ask about 32bit 64bit windows-7
I have c2q Q6600 on asus p5q and I’m using creative audigy sound card and xfx 8800gt and RAM is 4GB
Above hardware is running with windows-7 32bit and problem is that I can use only 3GB of my 4GB RAM
So I am planning to install 64bit windows-7 and later (when officially win-7 release) I will buy 64bit win-7 so that I can use full 4GB RAM
but I want to know about my system and sound card + display card -- are these card with work on win-7 64bit without any problem
2nd thing is about software running on my 32bit OS e.g. acdsee divx and other normal gaming + multimedia tools - is there any problem running these tools/app on win-7 64bit
Please help me since it will be my first time that I am going to use/install any 64bit OS
Thanks and sure I will get full support as usual

Re: Win-7 32bit & 64bit for RAM Problem

A friend of mine pointed me to THIS article a while back. It's instructions on how to get the drivers installed on 32bit and 64bit Windows 7. Of note, one key thing is to be sure you set the sound quality to 24bit, otherwise you may experience a lot of crackling sound.

A more recent article would include THIS page that might be of use to you. It's in regards to Daniel_K's work on drivers for the OS as well.

Re: Win-7 32bit & 64bit for RAM Problem

Most software should work fine. The 64bit OS has support for running 32bit applications using an execution layer (technically called WOW64). The best way to describe it is that the OS emulates 32bit (you will find that the OS keeps separate registry listings for 32bit and 64bit games/apps, and will even have a separate "Program Files" folder for 32bit called "Program Files (x86)". Since Microsoft only has 1 version of Office 2007, that being 32bit, this is where it will get installed to. There are exceptions though. Older games/apps, ones that run in 16bit, or games/apps who's installers are 16bit. Those won't run at all. Same goes for device drivers. In fact, 32bit device drivers won't work either, so be sure that whatever components you have that there are 64bit drivers for (Vista 64bit drivers work most of the time, although sometimes you have to manually install them).

Re: Win-7 32bit & 64bit for RAM Problem

I have 6 GiB on Asus P5Q3 and use x64 Vista or now Win 7 7100 RC x64. I dont have any problems with games or apps. About a Creative i use modded drivers by Daniel K from http://forums.creative.com and this worked perfectly. Cheers :-)
