Good fixes, was kinda hoping for some big increases in the 4800 series tho

Okay I am not quite sure of this but I think they forgot to include the drivers for the release? I installed It didn't update my drivers (Still 8.512) So I uninstalled reinstalled again, and then It only installed the CCC control panel.

It also showed that as the only thing installed, (which I thought was weird)

also on the Download page (game.amd.com) it is showing the Download link for the "integrated" suite as 43.0MB Well if you look down just the CCC installed (for the dialup selection) is the same size.

And the driver itself is 21MB, Does this need to be fixed?

This is for the 32 bit version btw.
AMD GAME Drivers & Tools Here's the link You can see what I am talking about just looking at the sizes.

The driver package (8-8_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_67980.exe) does contain CCC (English only)and the display driver. The CCC package is only CCC with support for English and asian languages. The fact that they are the same size is simply a quirk of the way the compression works on various components.

Not sure why the driver is not installing. What graphics card do you have?

BTW: If your system specs are accurate it is easy to explain why the drivers don't install.......

It's a 4870, from Vistiontek. And it doesn't install the driver, I've tried drivercleaner, Regular uninstall. and just using the software to update.

As for my system specs, they're just not updated.

X64 Works Just fine, 32 bit did however not.
I had to grab the display driver again.

I will try re-grabbing them now and see if they'll install if you'd like?

Okay after re-downloading the integrated suite on my main rig they do indeed work, I don't know what's changed but it did install just fine and when I clicked customize this time the driver did show up. I clicked to overwrite everything as well. I checked my C:\ATI and it's the same too. That's just weird.

But that's fine works now =)

Apparently there were a few messed up links originally, but unless the original package was corrupt I have no explanation.

Wierd, I agree.

But it is good that it works now.

The initial 32-bit CCC Suite for Vista was not properly packaged. I can attest to that as I had to download the drivers separately to update from 8.7 to 8.8. Several others on other forums were having the same issue.

Dang CATALYSTCATCHER, you just keep coming thru for me

Back in mid June I posted:

Now, another burning question. How hard would it be to allow for refresh rates higher than 60Hz for the 1440x900 resolution? With my FW900 CRT 1400x900 would be great, but the 60Hz limit makes it a nono as it's just too hard on the eyes. 1440x900 would be perfect for me (and probably others with WS CRTs, as 1280x800 is a bit large, and 1680x 1050 is a bit small (at least for these old eyes). ...
Out come the 8.8's, and I'm running 1440x900x32 @ 85Hz!!! LIFE IS GOOD

Thanks CC, and tell the rest of the driver guys thanks too. I know these 'fixes' weren't all that hard to implimment, but just the fact that you guys listened to one "Joe Average User", and acted on it, shows just how important you guys thing the average user is.

I got another "bonus" too, as now in Vista64 my 2nd monitor no longer goes blank, after exiting HALO 2 Used to be I had to re-boot after HALO2 to get the 2nd monitor back. Not a documented fix, but one for me anyway.

OH No! Omega Drivers were my last chance at getting this radeon 3650 to work. Hopefully you guys will have some ideas.

I just bought this pc last week, turned it on, and without installing Anything, it began registering serious hardware interrupts. I disabled the ati driver and the problem went away. Of course, so did the point of having the card.

I've installed, uninstalled, and cleaned out drivers several times in safe mode to no avail. The moment I get the ati drivers installed the hardware interrupts start.

Here's a twist for you: The card has one DVI port and two DisplayPorts on the back. If you go on the ATI website they don't even show a 3650 with this configuration! (You can see a pic of my card by googling "ati displayport" and checking out the pictures. The card seems to have been called the RV635 XT) When I ordered the PC it was supposed to come with the 3650 that has two DVIs in the back. Anyway, I'm beyond confused and given that there are no Omega drivers for Vista32 it looks like I'll be packing the radeon away and grabbing a nVidia.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing the interrupts?

According to the System Requirements for the HD 3600 Series video cards, the system needs at least a 400W PSU.
_______________________
ATI Radeon™ HD 3600 Series – System Requirements
  • PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
  • 400 Watt or greater power supply (550 Watt for dual ATI CrossFireX™) recommended
  • Certified power supplies are recommended
  • 1GB of system memory recommended
  • Installation software requires an optical drive
  • DVD playback requires a DVD drive
  • Blu-ray™ / HD DVD playback requires a Blu-ray / HD DVD drive
  • For a complete ATI CrossFireX™ system, a second ATI Radeon™ HD 3600 series graphics card, an ATI CrossFireX Ready motherboard and one ATI CrossFireX Bridge Interconnect cable is required
____________________________________

Per the specifications of the Dell Inspiron 530, it comes with a 300W PSU. [And likely not a very good one, at that.]

Try the system with a much better PSU and see if that fixes the problem.

Cheers and good luck!

System Specs

I'm getting blue screens with my newly installed 4870. I had ATITool installed and usually just install CCC and Theater550 every month. I didn't bother uninstalling anything this time. I powered down, replaced my 1950 with the 4870, booted and then installed 8.8. When it rebooted after installation, the desktop was freezing every 5 secs for about 10 secs. Finally it froze and i had to force a reset. Now i get BSOD here and there. Last one was while watching TV (media center).

I managed to play some games and all i can say is WOW. Smoooooth. FEAR with maximum, soft shadows, all eye candy on with v-sync enabled gave me rock solid 60fps.

BTW, is it normal i don't hear the fan throttle? My X1950XTX (ATI, 70c idle, 14% fan) would spin up a few minutes after entering 3D. The 4870 (Sapphire, 80c idle, 23% fan) stays silent no matter what i throw at it.

You need to do the fan trick if you really want it to cool down, however, its perfectly fine, it wont really kick up until it gets over 90C, which is why I did the fan trick, run it at 45% and it stats below 65C at load.

As far as your stuttering, I would completely clean out the drivers, I just switched the pci-express ports of my 4870, to try and clear them out of my sata port's way, and it did EXACTLY the same thing, stutter, freezes etc at random times. I totally cleaned up the drivers and the problem went away.

Hey guys i was wondering if you might be able to help me out here. I have the x2300 in my laptop and just updated to 8.8. Before, ccc would say that my max resolution was 1280x800 even though i have a wxga+ screen and i couldn't go any higher than that. now it recognizes that i have a 1440x900 native screen but still only lets me go up to 1280x800. Does anyone know what I can do to get my screen up to its capable specs?

--Thought i should mention i am running vista home premium x64
