Radeon X1800, Vista x64, and resolution woes.
I apologize beforehand if this has been covered before, but I've been wrapping my brain about this for a few days now.
I had Windows XP x86 from SP2 through SP3 without any problems. A couple days ago I decided it was time for a format and decided to upgrade to Vista x64. Well while using XP, I had no problems getting my desktop or any game I play to 1440x900x80. At the time, I was using Omega Drivers 4.8.442.
Now with Vista x64, Omega Drivers aren't available yet so I'm stuck using the Cats. No matter what I try, I cannot seem to get 1440x900 available at all and the only 16:10 resolution I get is 1280x800 at either 60hz or 75hz. I started with the 8.5 cats, tried 8.4, then 8.1, 7.5 (couldn't install these correctly at all), 7.12, and now I'm back at the 8.5 cats. I used Driver Cleaner between each install. I've tried Refresh Force and tinkered slightly with Powerstrip, though through my frustration I didn't have the patience to learn my way around that program and got rid of it quickly.
At this point I don't know if it's just Vista x64, drivers, or my rather cheap Trutech LCD Monitor/TV combo giving me this problem. The monitor shows up as a Generic NonPnP Monitor, I'm guessing because I use a DVI adaptor, as the monitor has no DVI output. I'm hoping someone can help me out here. My system:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0ghz
2gb 533 DDR2
ATI Radeon X1800 GTO
TruTech PLV31199S1 19" LCD Monitor/TV/DVD Combo
Rather old Seagate IDE 120gb HDD
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!
You have only tried to change the screen resolution from the Catalyst Control Center? I had a bit similar problems with my 2nd screen and I had to set the resolution from the windows own Display settings panel.

I've tried every way I know, including Windows Display Settings. The resolution isn't even offered in "List All Modes..." in the Advanced Windows Display Settings. Goes from 1360x1024 to 1400x1050 to 1600x1200 to 1920x1080 and beyond.

Sure is. That's why I'm so concerned.

Hmm... you might want to try some 3rd party tools like Ati Tray tools or Riva Turner to force that resolution.

Do this (from my post at Rage3D)

Edit it with notepad.
The part of the file needed depends on which card you have in your case you need:
ati2mtag_RV515_SoftwareDeviceSettings (use find in notepad to get there)
In that section you see:
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD1, %REG_BINARY%,07,20,04,80,00,00,00,60,07,20,04,80,0 0,00,00,75,07,20,04,80,00,00,00,85,07,20,05,76,00, 00,00,00,08,48,04,80,00,00,00,60,08,48,04,80,00,00 ,00,75,08,48,04,80,00,00,00,85,12,80,07,20,00,00,0 0,60
Thats where it stores the resolutions and refreshrates.
07,20,04,80,00,00,00,60 means 720 x 480 at 60Hz
So if you wanted 1440x900 @ 60Hz you would add 14,40,09,00,00,00,00,60 in place of one of the other resolutions and then save the file and install the driver via the setup exe in the main folder.

Obviously the place in the inf would be different for your card.

Thank you very much Spyre! Worked like a charm and I don't have to mess with it any longer.
