Cannot get full resolution on HD3870 0n 22" monitor
Hi there. I'm having constant problem getting full 1680X1050 on my 22" samsung 223bw, in Vista 32-bit SP1 Ultimate. I've tried all catalyst drivers from 7.12 to 8.3. Also tried drivers from CD that came with the card. ATI Tray Tool can't start with some "cannot load low-level driver" error or something like that. I can only get 800X600 and 1024X768. It's very frustrating. I have the latest Samsung drivers for my monitor. Some pics: http://www.benchmark.co.yu/forum/att...1&d=1206476562 http://www.benchmark.co.yu/forum/att...2&d=1206476593 It's all good in XP.

I dont use any of the 3rd party Radeon apps on my 3870. ATT and ATI Tool were always squirrly for me with the 3870. Rivatuner did alright. After a bios flash to correct the fan issues, i just stick with the CCC. I can understand not wanting to use the CC as i can be a RAM hog, but how much RAM do you have? If you have 2 gig+ i'd go with vista and the CCC only, if you have less than 2 gigs stick with XP and your usual driver setup with 3rd party apps.
What was the original question though, getting tray tools to work or getting the resolution to 1680*1050? Can u set it with windows display properties when u right click the desktop?

CCC has a extremely small footprint now.. specially under vista.....
the CCC program and it's sub programs that run constantly take up such minimal amounts of ram and power that they essentially don't excist...
There isn't any reason now to use ccc... technically.. and the capabilities of the hd3870 are basically dropped to 0 when your not using CCC...
Anyways, make sure your not disabling any of the services nessary for the card to work.

I didn't disable anything. I only installed the Windows and after that Catalyst drivers. Nothing else!

I think the issue is that the monitor is identified as multiple monitors. You have two monitors ??

I would try a run with DC and reinstall, if the issue persists maybe try and reinstall chipset drivers, is there anything coming up as not fuctioning properly in the device manager?

No. Everything looks just fine. Except...I have a lot of problems with my raid0 system...lot of 'disk corrupt' errors. I don't know what is the cause of this. Maybe this is someway connected with this 'resolution' problem of mine.

if you got those issues this issues is less important. If your disc is corrupt then I strongly recommend you to fix that issue, since it will cause data loss.

I second and third that advice.
a) because it is 100% the correct thing to do
b) I suspect the ati display driver is not actually running. And that could be due to corrupt files that refuse to load.
8x6 and 10x7 only, tell me you are likely running the default Vista display driver which does not allow anything else except, maybe 640.
Of course that is all just a hunch, but you gotta fix your disks first. Otherwise, you are building your Vista home on a foam rubber foundation in quicksand.

How to fix this disk issue? My disks are in raid0 mode that goes over southbridge controler. My motherboard also has one more raid controler, jMicron. I have a feeling these raid controlers are the main couse of all my problems. In Vista, i think i'm runnng the default display drivers, not the catalyst.

run chkdsk /R on all drives, some drives needs to be checked during boot. If that can't fix them you need either new hardrives or new mobo.
