Splutter, splutter, splutter

Hi folks

I have finally given up hope that some demos will ever run under Vista. Every month I would test my folder of duff demos to see if they were fixed with the latest Catalyst drivers.

Well, I have now deleted around 70 demos. This does leave a good 500+ that work fine. ( it saves me one hell of a lot of testing each month). In fact, when some demos run, they actually run smoother under Vista. So, it's not all bad news.

Apart from 1 demos that is, which happens to be one of my favourite demos. It splutters like it's running at very low frame rates and has a hell of a job to reach the end without crashing.

I have tried everything I can think of to get it to run smooth, but nothing seems to affect it's running at all. It's just jumpy/spluttery as if my PC is low on resources.

I've tried running as admin, turning all the desktop off and glass theme, adjusting about every setting in turn in CCC, runing at very low screen resolutions, running in compatability mode.... etc

It used to run very well under XP, but seems to really struggle under Vista.

I wondered if any Catalyst expert could take a look to see why this is?

The demo is Adrenalin by Smash Designs

I've got demos from back in 97 that i can't play...

some i "can" get to work however (which is shockingly interesting)

BUT IMO, it's best to backup the files and move them to an archived file folder somewhere safe in your home.......

i'm having more troubles getting EA/Ubisoft made games, full versions, patched, and running on the systems/OSes they were designed for .........

I just ran the Adrenaline Demo by Smash Designs on my system using Catalyst 7.10s on the rig in the profile at left. No problems with it on this end. Ran it at 1280x1024@85Hz.

Thanks for trying that Dyre Straits. Maybe with all Vista's extra load on resourses, my old system is having a job keep up. It does feel like mine is having a job to cope with running it. Even though being a 2002 demo, it was pretty demanding. Not much can be done about that then, no amount of driver tweaking is going to improve it :-(

Maybe after Vista SP2 things might be a little less resourse hungry!

there is Zero reason that your system should be having a hard time with vista..

if i can run vista 32bit ultimate on a intel P3 833mhz with 512mb of ram and a 128mb radeon 9550se...... smoothly... and still play some of the games that the machine was capable of playing with xp smoothly... something else is oddly not working properly....
