ATI X1650 - Max Resolution Not Supported

Okay, so I've searched my problem and don't think I've seen anything that supplies an answer so I'm starting a new thread in hopes that some wise sage of Radeon drivers will assist me...

My X1650 is not displaying the maximum resolution it can... I purchased a new Acer E700 Quad Core E6600 desktop that came with the X1650 SE (256MB version). It was working wonderfully (well the first night of setup) with my Acer 22" Widescreen at full resolution (1680 x 1050) until I plopped in my Theater 550 and updated all my ATI drivers (both the Theater 550 Pro and the X1650) from ATI's website. Since then, I occassionally (but often enough to be a complete annoyance) "black out" at max resolution and my monitor displays a "Resolution not supported" grey box. I turn the monitor off and on and get the screen back until it blacks out again... If I put the resolution down to 1440 x 900 I don't have any of these problems... but my beautiful 22" widescreen doesn't look as pretty
(yeah, I know, cry me a river...)

I'm connected with a DVI cable... I have CCC 7.8 installed as well... and I'm on Vista Home Premium (32 bit)...

Any strategy for getting this up and running at max resolution?
