driver support issues

I don't know about anyone else here but does it not piss you off that you have paid in the range of 350-600 dollars for a dx10 video card and you can't really use it to its potential? I find it very disturbing that vista has been out for a couple years now and they are dragging their feet on the ground. I know go back to xp then. Well I would but the drivers for XP blow ass even worse. This is getting old and I don't really see how they can advertise that these vid cards are vist wow guarenteed. The cards no doubt maybe but what the hell is the sense of having them if they can't even code a decent set of drivers. You guys with sli i feel really bad for ya. This is not just ment for nvidia users ati by far is in the same boat. Its a damn shame. If the rumors are true about amd in financial difficulty they better get their head out of their ass and get a move on or this will definetly put the icing on the cake for them. This must be really putting a finacial burdon on them both. But bottom line is I don't feel bad for either companies, they brought it on them selves. Sorry folks just needed to vent....

This really should be in the flame warzone or something I think.
but... i do agree with you... driver support is horrid these days...
however, vista has not been out for a couple of years... the beta may have been floating around that long, but remember DX10 hasn't been finalized for that long, either.
i think that nVidia basically hyped up their DX10 functionality when they knew DX10 games were not due out for a while and made a load of money...

1. only idiots who believe they 'need' vista have issues with the drivres, plenty of people have no problems

2. adopting vista this early, you deserve your problems

I don't need Vista, but already I like it better than XP. AND I have had zero driver problems. When XP was released, the driver support was much worse.

WoW an intellegent statement, but if you actually knew what you were talking about it would be nice. Obviously you have no clue as to how shitty the drivers are for XP and this wasn't geared at ati or nvidia or vista or xp in general. Re read then come back and make an intellegent statement.

driver support is horrid for any company right now for the Vista OS when comparing it to winXP. Be it, NVIDIA, ATI, Logitech, Creative, etc. The OS is still basically new, and as it matures, driver content will mature and become better. This is also true for winXP when new products are released.

People like you have no patience. If you just wait around for a little bit, then you'll see new drivers appear. Drivers will appear as each company launches them respectively. Also, people who have the greatest hardware first, will have all the problems first. Peolple who wait a while are the smart ones as they don't have to deal with all the problems of new hardware not working right with drivers, no drivers available, etc. It's been shown time and time again. So you have one of two options:

1. Buy the greatest hardware first and deal with the problems you encounter only for the mere fact that you will be braging about what you have.

2. Wait around until the time is right to have the driver support level you desire.

cddb, prince link, i think u both missed a point he made, that the drivers for 8800 series for xp suck to. he isnt just bitchin about vista but xp too. he has a valid point.
nv has really dropped the ball with the 8800 series drivers.
as far as early adopters of vista go, i agree with both of u(tho prince could have worded it better). y i am waiting till sp1 come out later this year before i even think about dealing with it.

Thanks mike yes that is what I am trying to say, I did go back to xp and the drivers were so bad it hurt my eyes looking at the dektop because the text was so screwed up and blurry. Game wise there was no difference between vista and xp so I went back to vista because the text was much much clearer. I am just upset because driver support for both os's are severly screwed up. Thanks again mike no punt intended prince I think you just misunderstood what I was getting at.

@Prince_Link: I don't think you read carefully enough over t0pD4wG's situation. He's talking specifically about his should be spanking 8800 series card and nVidia's wretched support for it on both WXP and Vista.
@CDsDontBurn: You have a very good point, however, I feel that with Vista being in beta for so long before RTM, the manufacturers such as nVidia should have had sufficient time to try to get their act somewhat together, don't you think?
@t0pD4wG: This really is an unfortunate situation, but like everyone else has said, you just have to be patient. I know you were just venting, but that's why I said it should maybe go into the flame warzone area. Wish I (or any member of DH) could help, but it's all in nVidia's hands for now.

no, actually i didn't miss it.

MANY, G80 owners are not having issues WSE with thier cards in XP

yes, some games have some compatibility issues, but Brian and Chris at the nvidia forums both own G80's and are having zero problems, other then the ones that are already known about, with the majority of games.

YES, there are problems, BUT, there has been no ball dropped.

it is no different to when the Geforce 6 came out, with the amount of problems it had due to architecture changes, the Geforce 7 didn't have as many as it was just a speed increase and more memory... so there wasn't as much as an architecture change.

now... i will say this.

I dare anyone here, to go and create a video card, and have it work with all games out of the box.... its a dare i will win for sure.

alot of the people having issues with G80's are actually using systems coupled with Nforce 6x0i's... and... people are getting banned for saying it.. but they are blaming the fact it was made in india... as to why it has so many issues out of the box. me...i don't know for sure.. but it gives you something to think about.

a friend of mine has recently bought a GTS and he says all his games work fine... so how can some people come here saying nvidia dropped the ball? yet others are saying its the best thing ever made for gaming?

having a new card & expecting great drivers right away is silly, ur right about that. but it is no longer a 'new' card. & there r still to many peeps having issues in both xp & vista with this card specifically & vista drivers as a whole.
dont know & dont care who brian & chris r. u say they r having zero problems then go on to say except... lol
i was part of the 6 series issues & i got t osay they cleaned that up pretty quick. unlike this release.
your dare is ridiculous. nobody has said that & nobody(that is reasonable) expects that. however several months after launch is another matter entirely.
i agree with your statement about the nv chipset, that is also another screwup on nvs part.
nv has dropped the ball. their drivers for all cards for xp have become shoddy, i have to use 9371 drivers as all the new ones introduce various problems. & their support for vista is pathetic. ati hasnt been that great at driver support imo, but at least they had it together for vista.

mike, the Geforce 6 wasn't an entirely new architecture with seperate clocks on 128 different stream processors

tbh, i believe the nvidia hasn't fully unleashed the full tech on that card yet and are waiting for the R600 to release so they can switch it on and again blow ati out of the game :P

i had to use 92.91 for awhile there myself as my card would lock up randomly, i have since worked out that the cause of that was coolbits exposing the o/c page in the old cp.. so now i just set it to 9 and expose only the advanced d3d options.... im using 94.20 atm and 8xS AA is broken entirely... before it would work and be slower then 8xS Old method.. but now it just doesn't apply..... heh... im sure it'll get fixed the next time i update drivers

i only brought up g6 because of your comment.
you mat be right about 'unleashing' but even if that is true they are still hurting themselves long term with non/ crappy driver releases.
im also sick of not being able to see disc scan on bootup. it can be a good trouble shooting tool if u get a crash & as it will sometimes give u a clue as to what is causing the problem.
there is no excuse for that not having been fixed.
even if they fix that particular aa prob, the ywill introduce another. i gave up on trying t ofigure out wich sets of drivers work with wich settings.
i think they need to do what they kinda been doing & that is keeping the 8 series gpu & later drivers seperate from older gpu vers. for what ever reasons they just dont seem to work well together.

Well I guess it's soon time to say good-bye to the 8800gts, I think I am going back to ati and try out the new r600's. I honestly gave nvidia a serious go but like in the past I have been disapointed by the driver support. Atleast ati does a release every single month. I like the 8800 card just can't stand the rediculous support. Maybe in a few months i'll get it back out of the box and install it on a second machine. Sorry Nvidia you had your chance.

i just recently gave my sister her GTS, and it's working in her machine like a champ. the only complaint i have about it, is that it's so damn big! lol. i had to move her sound card, wirless card, and her MSI USB/LED bracket thing in order to make the card fit. Other than that 97.92 is working perfectly fine .
