CHIP FIRM VIA, as we've reported earlier, has two fresh products rising from the horizon. Those are Pentium 4 chipsets - the PT880 Pro and the P4M800 Pro.
The first has a front size bus of 1066MHz, supports dual channel memory including DDR-2 667 and includes Via's Universal Graphic Interface (UGI), which supports PCI Express and AGP 3.0, for obvious reasons of compatability.
This chipset also supports the 800MHz system bus.
The P4M800 Pro supports an 800MHz bus, DDR-1 400/DDR-2 533, and has integrated graphics in the shape of the Unichrome - yes that S3 chrome gets everywhere - Pro.
The PT880 Pro goes into mass production this quarter, but Intel promises further chipset products including the PT894 Pro, which has Dual GFX Express - essentially dual PCI Express, also slated for this quarter.
There are DeltaChrome versions on the way - the PM890 goes into mass production in the second quarter of next year. So far Via is keeping quiet about its plans for dual core chipsets. But then, so is Intel. We'll cover its plans for AMD processors in a separate article. ยต
