Hi (and sorry for my bad english),
I downloaded and installed the kx drivers yesterday for the first time, and they work great with my SB Live Value. But thereīs just one big problem. I made songs with Cakewalk Musik Creator, that contains Midi AND Audio tracks. For playing the midi tracks, I use of course the KX Synth driver (Iīve loaded a SFbank on the KX mixer). For the audio tracks, I tried all available drivers (ASIO, WDM, MME). The problem was always the same. Ok, itīs the following: When I start to playback the song, especially the audio tracks make some noise or dissapear completely (sometimes on the left, sometimes right, sometimes both channels). But itīs no classical dropout because of CPU usage. Always the same, no matter which audio driver I use. When I go to the Cakewalk menu and deselect the Kx Synth (Midi), all the audio tracks work fine. But of course itīs no solution, because I canīt hear the midi tracks then. On the other side, when I deselect the audio drivers, the midi tracks work fine. But I canīt playback audio and midi tracks at the same time. I also tried different DSP configurations, but it didnīt help. I also tried playing the same song with the original creative drivers, and it worked without problems. But there must be also a way to get that working with the Kx drivers. Thanks for any help. Chris |

Yes, but thatīs not the problem (working with midi since years and have of course loaded the sfbank). My problem is, that I canīt playback songs that contain audio AND midi tracks. Audio separately and midi separately works fine.

So what is your system config (hardware / OS)?

Iīm working with that system:
- Win98 SE - Mainboard: Epox 8kta3pro (with VIA Kt133a, I know about the troubles when using SBlive with Kt133a, but it seems to work fine with the original creative drivers, all VIA patches are installed) - 256 MB SDRam - Athlon C, 1,33 Ghz - Music software: Cakewalk Music Creator - Soundcard: SBlive Value 47 CT4780 The songs, I wrote at my previous posts, donīt contain more than 10 tracks. Even with my old AWE32 it works fine to playback them. |

Im wondering if thats a bug in CW Music creator - Sonar works great as long as the audio is recorded at 48Khz and NOT 44Khz. - Which is the problem I ran into - cakewalks default to 44Khz - So with old drivers, I recoreded in that bitrate. But now, I HAVE to export - convert to 48Khz - re-import into sonar - to fix my problem - I wonder if they are same problem with different symptoms. (sonar would stop at the point an audio clip with 44Khz starts - like at measure 7 - sonar runs up to that point then complains about a sample rate not supported by the sound card.
Sonar has a settable 'default recording samplerate' - I had to change this to 48 from 44 I used to use. Another thing to be aware of - Sonar 2 XL did not work with my video capture device's audio driver enabled - I had all kinds of weird problems until I figured that one out. Make sure ONLY kx drivers are enabled. Some adobe products have started installing an audio driver for some reason - I disabled that one just for good measure, dont know if it causes any problems, but after my long hard lesson... I dont take them chances anymore. |

Donīt enable any other sound device than the SB-Live, uninstall all other devices and de-activate them in BIOS. Unistall all other soundcard drivers. Uninstall current kX-package completely, clear registry settings when prompted during uninstall process. Re-install a fresh 3537 kX-package and be sure that only the Live-card is the single installed sound and MIDI device. Set the sample rate of your audio project to 48kHz, set hardware acceleration in multimedia properties to "full". At last: try to update your OS to Win2000 or XP - they have better multimedia support that may help to fix your problem (had this issue too with ī98SE on my system). Good luck!

Thanks for your help!
@Maddogg, Iīm not shure if it is a Cakewalk bug, because it works with all other drivers fine. @TravelRec, I already tried everything you described (except changing my OS). I even did a completely new installation of win98, to be sure, there are no more settings or entries from old devices. It didnīt help. Some more things I found out: - The audio errors only appear, when there is a midi track which is assigned to KXSynth1 or KXSynth2. - It doesntīt matter, how many tracks there are. Even one midi track is enough, to cause that problem - When I donīt load any Soundfontbank, audio tracks play without error (even if KXSynth tracks are active). - Iīve assigned one directX effect plugin to a audio track. When I remove the plugin, everything works fine. - I tried the older APSLive 1.84 driver today. The error didnīt happen, even when directX effect plugins and the KXSynth device are used at the same time. Last edited by chris75; Aug 27, 2005 at 09:21 AM. |

It sounds exactly like the problem I had, it seems to be an OS-problem, I fear you have to update...
