I was going to ask if the soundfont scene is dying, since there haven't been many updates to the main page on HammerSound for a long time. When I looked at the What's New page for the Soundfont-specific section of the site though, I found that new stuff is still trickling in:

http://www.hammersound.net/cgi-bin/s..._new&numnew=20

I'm curious to know if there are any other good soundfont sites out there now too. There used to be another good one with an FTP, but it died so long ago that I can't remember the name

Wow, thanks lucioblues! I just googled a URL to another forum with a thread on the same subject as this one: http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=51232

Looks like it has some links not in this thread yet In particular, I really like GeneralUser, a great-sounding and not-too-big GM/GS soundfont: http://www.sccmusic.250x.com/

yes general user is the most balanced for the size it has..

i use always (more than a year th i'm using it).

then if u need more particular sound ,you can load othetr things, but anyway ,its the most good programmed soundfont,
the samples i found shity, but when you load a midi they are beatifully sounding, due to the perfect balancing /programing by the author ,sir anthony..really a great boy (when he released that ,Guser was the best 1 at all).
on that forum :
http://www.kvr-vst.com

check the "infinity soundfont list"(use search button),you'll be surprised..

exclamation Upload space needed

Hi there,

If you need good soundfonts, then please let me know where
to upload them.
I mean a good free service that will last more than two days,
no matter if f*p or h**p.
I'd really like to SHARE but I can not find relatively safe solution,
if you know what I mean. I tried on other forums, but the best (?)
advice I was given was to join this forum. Well, I'm waitng for suggestions.
I'm quite sure you won't regret it...

You help me and I'll help you. That's the idea of sharing, I guess.

I believe that you can found some good free samples yet today. But not always in soundfont format. But it can be solved easily.
some places with giga files for free that are very good and i have succesfully converted to sf2:

http://www.westgatestudios.com/free.htm
Two excelent acousting guitars and Trumpets with diffrent expression touchs.

http://www.projectsam.com/
Search there the free downloads section. Some nice sounds.

http://learjeff.com/sf/sf.html
A big soundfont of Rhodes make by a friend. Give it a look, is really good.

This one is very interesting, but appear be out of service temporarely
http://www.gtownsounds.com/

And there is one project that i cant remember now, when i remember, post.

Hi all:

Here's a coulpe of links to free soundfonts:

The first site has a good number of soundfonts, mostly modeled after sounds used by Roland instruments. There are varied instrument soundfonts there. You will need SFArk to unpack these, but it can be downloaded at the site as well:

http://www.guraydere.com/soundfonts/...ils.aspx?kat=1

This is a nice free Piano soundfont Splendid Grand. This is the 72 MB version. There is a 136 MB version, but no one seems to be hosting it any more. Anyway, check out this 72 MB version. You will need SFPack to unpack this one, and it's available for download at the site:

Hello!

I'm searching for a complete soundfont to improve my midi sound. What is the best complete soundfont collection? Size doesn't matter...

Should I rather install soundfonts for each instrument seperately and which?

You could try Crisis 3.01 (it's a 1.6 gigs size GM font). It's freely downloadable, although you have to register on the site.
IMO, some sounds are harshy (sometimes you can hear key nocks, for example, as a bonus ), though some of them are nice.
If I'm not too late...
Crisis is also sharing his previous 'Crisis 1.8' which is some 230 (or about) megs in size and thus fits sound card's hardware synth (Cri3.0 is intended for soft synths solely).
