>>do you intend to make KXSFi be able to handle compressed soundfonts (sfArk)?..
Hmm..I haven't thought about that. If there is a free sfArk SDK it would be possable. Otherwise I would have to figure out sfark's format and de-compression alogoritme..doh.. What I did had in mind was a 'SF bank file browser' so one could preview/load single presets. This way one could assemble their own sets, saving time and precious memory by loading only the presets one needs. /LeMury |

KX drivers soundfont page in KX mixer will let you load sfark format, so I guess Eugene has info about how to load decompress those. The sf bank file browser is also a great idea. Thanks.

>>KX drivers soundfont page in KX mixer will let you load sfark format...
Duh..ofcourse (silly me), you are right! Hmm.... however, I can't find any reference to it in the SDK. Nevermind, I'll ask Eugene about it along with some other stuff I need to know. Thanks for the tip Daniel. //--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: I just treid loading some SF in sfark format, but load time is very long and quite some fonts give a load error. (Possably due to diff. sfark version) So I don't think I'll implement it in kXSFi for now. //----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit2: btw; Daniel, you CAN load sfark format from kXSFi. Just select "all Files" to show the *.sfark file extension, and load it. Last edited by LeMury; Mar 2, 2004 at 04:35 PM. |

Nando,
>>.... Any prompt? Ehh, do you mean tips for free webspace? If so; There are so many..I use Lycos for simple sharing because it has web ftp. But other users may have much better alternatives. But why don't you send that small SF to me via e-mail? (See my profile for e-mail adres) |

BTW: This morning Wavelab 4.01b didn't want to start with kXSFi.dll. I took it out from the vstplugins folder and everything worked ok. After this I put it back into vstplugins folder and, after saying something like 'Unable to load kXSFi.dll', now it works as normal. It is not a problem at all, just telling you. I'll be back if I can keep standing for looking for the web space

*'But why don't you send that small SF to me via e-mail?'
Well, it was not as small as I thought , it is 8 Mb (compressed) and I can't send so big files by my e-mail. (Hotmail) I'm sorry.

Ok, dumb me, you're right LeMury, it does load sfark although the kx drivers seem to have a bit of trouble with some sfark files... Thanks and sorry for not checking it right.

good work!
sfark support is provided on the driver level, that's why it should work without any modifications LeMury: yes, feel free to contact me by e-mail for any kX SFVSTi-related stuff ![]() /Eugene |

Hi LeMury and thanks again for kxSFi
I have a sugestion to make. I know that the idea of this plugin is to use it with Cubase SX. But I think it could be in the future a "standard" soundfont manager for kx for all kind of MIDI software VST compatible. I have made some tests with Cubase SX, Sonar* and N-Track. In Cubase it works properly but in the others I can load the plugin but, when I click the "Load SF" button, nothing happens. There's no "Load SoundFont" dialog as I've got under Cubase. Are you using an specific Cubase component for that? If yes, thats my proposal: is it possible to use the Windows "Open File" default dialog instead of that? In that case I think it could work for the other software. Otherwise, sorry if my diagnostics are wrong or if there's some foolishness on my ideas. I'm just trying to help to improve your plugin. *There's no more errors for Sonar for me as I reported earlier with the newer versions (I just can't load soundfonts as I described above). And don't underestimate your work: Sonar soundfont manager works great but I think that your plugin can be better then that in the future. Thanks |

LucioBleus,
>>There's no "Load SoundFont" dialog as I've got under Cubase. Are you using an specific Cubase >>component for that?............. Well, the VST/VSTGUI SDK is a standard made by Steinberg. Other vendors may or may not support full VST functionality. In this case, it's up to the Host app. to respond to a 'VSTGUI openFileSelector call'. Unfortunatly, most non-Steinberg Hosts don't. So I would have have to write a 'standard' file selector alongside in case a Host fails to provide one. Although it can be done, it's quite some work since the VSTGUI is very un-friendly when it comes to linking MFC libraries or any other for that matter. (still working on this matter) Thanks for the suggestions and feedback. /LeMury //------------------------------------------------------------------ EDIT: Just found another solution for a 'native' fileselector within VST SDK. I'll see what I can do. Last edited by LeMury; Mar 4, 2004 at 01:29 PM. |

On first start it scanned all VST plugs, and it reported it could not load any found VSTi-s (ofcourse).. ,but it did not crash! It started just fine. On next start Wavelab did not report it again. Maybe 4.01a is a bit buggy on some VSTi-s...dunno. /LeMury |

Hi LeMury and everyone. I'm sorry for the delay, I'm really too busy these days. This is the link for that soundfont.
http://club.telepolis.com/nandodomin...li_V1.3.sfpack As I told you, it did loaded but didn't sound with the first release, at least not always. Now works perfectly, but might be usefull for distinguish between different kind of conflictive soundfonts. And thank you very much for the new release. I'm going to try it right now. Cheers mate. Nando .................................................. .................. I know, I know. The link doesn't work. I'm trying to solve it.

Hello:
I'm becoming crazy... I'm triying to use your vsti but it seems that I'm making something wrong. It loads perfectly and I'm able to load sounfdonts also but the vsti always tell me that the kxSynth2 is in use. I've tried in Nuendo 2 and Cubase SX 2. The problem is that i don't know how to deactivate this synth... I don't find any place on these programs to deactive or remove this device. I've also tried without creating a project, so I think that is something related to the configuration. Any Help? Any Idea? Thank you very much and keep up the good work!!! |

just for your information: sfman32.dll and Cubase SX patch names
LeMury: I started fighting sfman32.dll issues seriously before your VSTi was announced. anyway, I'm sure your work is still very useful since it resolves most of the issues found in the Cubase SoundFont manager that cannot be solved by any version of sfman32.dll ![]() /Eugene |

>>It loads perfectly and I'm able to load sounfdonts also but the vsti always tell me that the kxSynth2 is in use...
For people having trouble opening 'kX synth2' with kXSFi in Cubase SX; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After some further testing, it seems that only the following DLLs leave 'kX Synth2' free for opening by kXSFi; C:\WINDOWS\system32\sfman32.dll version: 4.6.0.501 Size: 50.0 KB (51,200 bytes) Note that this is the 'standard' version shipped with XP!!! This version resides in XP's driver cache, so by simply deleting the current version from \system32, XP will automaticly re-install the above mentioned 'standard' version. Be sure to check this afterwards. C:\WINDOWS\system32\sfms32.dll version: 5.12.1.381 Size: 264 KB (270,336 bytes) Although less important for kXSFi, this one should already be installed by kX drivers. Let me know if this helped. /LeMury P.S. Don't confuse this message with Eugene's new sfman32.dll (size 10kb). That version also does not leave kX Synth2 free for kXSFi. Keep in mind that both Eugene and I are doing our best to solve the SF problem through different approaches, so be prepared for some testing on your part. |

LeMury,
Unfortunately Ive been unable to make the kXSFi sound by freeing up synth2. Synth2 certainly does play the newly loaded sf if I switch the output of the track to Synth2. I've tried (unable to) switching off the Directsound option for this device in Devices.. I'm not sure what else to try.. I've had a degree of success with Eugene's sfman32.dll. I have a humble suggestion/request for a kxVSTi (similar to kXSFi). It would simply load a kX settings file into kX driver with the ability to select card in multicard systems. It would overwrite the settings file with the current settings whenever the cubase song is saved. It would seem to consist of very similar code elements as kXSFi so maybe would not be too difficult or time consuming for you. Anyhow, thanks for your excellent contributions to kX. |

Dungle,
>>Unfortunately Ive been unable to make the kXSFi sound by freeing up synth2.... Have you checked/treid my last post on using XP's 'standard' sfman32.dll version? (Please confirm! I rely on your feedback.) If that still does not work, it's probably because of your multi-card config. Don't worry, I will test multi-card compatability soon. In general; that whole 'kX Synth2' "freeing" stuff remains a challange. If everything fails I still have other solutions, all be it not as elegant. /LeMury |

Eugene,
thats great news, the last time I tried kXi it would only save/restore to the primary card (the wrong card for me ), so multicard support would be a bonus. LeMury, I got a 50k version of sfman32.dll from 3530, and it works great! I think the SF interface is now so much better than the old built-in one. Of course further development is welcome, but the way it is now, it is so much more ergonomic (than before). I used to have creative drivers on one card for the SF support (what a hassle!). As you can tell I'm enthusiastic about VST interfaces to control kX resources in clever ways! cheers! |

kXSFi.dll v1.0.4.3537 Update
--------------------------------------------------- http://members.lycos.nl/lemury/kxpro..._v104.3537.zip (richt click and "save target as") -Fixed; Loading some long SF bank descriptors could cause a crash. -Added; native windows Fileselector if host does not provide one. -Project chunk file loading and fxb loading improved. -small GUI improvements. An empty slot will not cause 'Clear' to highlight. Make sure you use the right SFMAN32.DLL..!! See included txt, and/or read this thread. /LeMury |

Here I come again... Could we be able to just double-click a "slot" to add an instrument there? Also, could we be able to select and press DEL to remove the instrument from there? No big deal ok, just thoughts.... Thanks for the great work and new version.

Daniel,

If so; yep, maybe later. >> Also, could we be able to select and press DEL to remove the instrument from there? Yes, but If editor would accidently loose focus, pressing DEL would wipe a track or something. Hmmm.....donno. /LeMury PS: Anyone still having problems opening kX Synth2 ??? If not I can move on

Hi!
Had also massive problems with opening kxsynth2 with the sfman32.dll originally shipped with kx (the 36kb-file). Anywhere @ my hd I found an 50kb file - installed it and now kxsfi works like a charm. I think I´ll post that file tomorrow to electricstart.de for downloading (who needs). Great work, LeMury, thanks! CU TravelRec.
