Bad crashes, please help !

Hi all,

I build my own soundfonts with Vienna for 5 years now and it has alway been ok. (some crashes sometimes but nothing abnormal)
But, since 2 weeks when I'm trying to build my soundfonts, bad crahes occurs (I mean no warning or something, pc just reboots). It's driving me crazy !!!!
I really don't know what kind of pb making my PC so unstable.
The 2 last changes are:
- Installing the kx 3558m full version drivers
- Changing the Paged Pool Size value from 0x00000000, to 0xffffffff
Do you really think that can be the cause the problem ?
I'm lost, please help me.

Thanks for advance

No answer ?

I just remember that lately I've replaced my old 512 Mo RAM (166 mhz) with
1 Go (200 mhz).
Do you think the mhz difference can be the cause of that pb ?

BTW: Vienna 2.40.60 is freely available on the Creative site.
There is lot of improvements and it seems easier to use.
But don't worry, bugs are still here!
The program crashed on my PC 2 or 3 times during test.
I hope the Creative programmers will fix them.
To be continued....

Sorry to hear aabout the chrashes Tintin.

But a good thing to do is to go to startup and Recovery (by right clicking My Computer and selecting Properties/Advanced tab and under the Startup and Recovery section, click the Settings button, then, under the System Failure section, uncheck mark Automatically Restart).

If your system crashes again, you will get a blue screen of death (BSOD). At the bottom of this screen, you can see a statement about what caused the crash. Sometimes it specifically states what caused the problem. Sometimes it's just some numbers and letters listed there. Anyway, it can be helpful because you can write down what's there and do a search on the Internet to see if any other people have had the problem and got it fixed or what.

I hope this helps you.

Also, about the new memory you installed, if it is compatible with your system motherboard (and you can see if it is by checking your motherboard manual), there is no problem there, if you got the right type of memory. Sometimes memory can be bad. If you think that may be the case, you can check that out by searching on the Internet for a tool that checks your memory to see if there is a problem with the memory or not.

Thank you very much Thomasabarnes for your advices.
I did what you said and, as expected, the blue screen of death appeared and I could
get a description of the pb.
I finaly discovered that the pb comes from my 1Go RAM wich is defective (I tested it with Memtest86+)
So I replaced it with my old 512 Mo and everything seems work properly.

Thanks again
