Bog standard MIDI Playback

Hi Everyone,

I'm basically just trying to get normal MIDI playback working in winamp etc.
I've loaded one of the creative 4MB soundfonts in which seems to be alright. I've also had a look at the routing and it seems that MIDI goes to FXBus 2/3 so ive put those on with a mixer going to Output 4/5 (Front Speakers). Ive also got the Device in the MIDI settings as:
midiOut / kX Synth SB0244 10k2 [c000]

but it doesn't seem to actually work :/

Anyone got any idea about something totally moronic i've forgotten here?

As far as MIDI goes, it sounds like you have it right. Make sure the MIDI synth volume is up in kxmixer. Connect a peak plugin to FxBus 2/3 and check to see if you are getting a signal there (when playing a MIDI using the kX Synth).

Output 4/5 of what?
Are you using analog speakers or digital?
Out 4/5 of epilog is digital center/LFE.
Out 0/1 would be analog front (affected by the Swap Front and Rear toggle).
Out 2/3 would be digital front.

Maddogg6 will become famous soon enough

1) Make sure that soundfont is loaded into BANK 0 (assuming there are ADDITIONAL BANKS defined in that soundfont file - DONT LOAD additional banks (1-127) - doing so seems to mess stuff up. Its ok if you know the file loaded into BANK 0 has ONLY patches defined for bank 0.

2) Make sure the 'PATCH/BANK SELECTING' in the midifile matches that in the KX Synth Compatibility settings (assuming it is selecting GS compatable (or possibly XG) patches.

with the default kX router settings:

Wave/fxbus0/1 is a combination signal
fxbus2/3 is soundfont
Wave/fxbus4/5 is front
Wave/fxbus6/7 is rear
Wave/fxbus8/9 is centre/lfe

if that's what you meant russ?

No, I was talking about epilog, not Fxbus.

Aha! Fixed!

Seems to have been a combination of not having the volume up in the mixer, the 4/5 output mixer, and loading the Soundfont as 1 rather than 0!

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated
