dare I mention...... ebay (?)
specially if your looking (slightly) older tech agp
I've bought 2 sff systems off ebay for no money at all, one sk478 Shuttle for my gf (again, that heatpipe thing is cool!) and a totty thing I bought as an mp3 server.
the shuttle ended up costing me about £45 ($80), I had a spare hdd or 2 already and a dvd drive, £30 for a 2.8 Cele and one of my old 9600pro's and I had a seriously cheap pc.
as for ease of use, I've had 2 hdd's, my HUGE x800 and my soundcard in it without any problem.
the only awkward thing about it is getting the ide cables out of the way so as not to block air flow, otherwise it's a piece of cake.
and if you got through all that, well done, you've won a speedboat.

took a couple pics putting my shuttle together last week, thought you might like to see how much room a shutle has. This is a sk 478 with a single pci and agp slot
that's with all heatpipe and fan assemblt removed
fan assembly back in
different view, fan back in
drive caddy back in place
finally, my huge x800 and a large hurcules sound card in
hope I've given you an idea of what you have to work with regards shuttles, they are a wee bit cramped

I have the shuttle in my sig and have had it running now flawlessly for about 5 months. It is really the best case for the space and noise yet!

some good pics niceguyrichy, im still a massive shuttle fan, i use my shuttle for almost everything now and have dissassembled the main rig, I have a P4 running at 4ghz, 2 gig of DDR2, and a few hard drives running with a single slot 7800GTX.
I might this year work on a dual core shuttle, but tbh ive lost interest a little in hardware lately, ive been spending more spare time with my motorbikes and basically using my shuttle (and laptops) for work/website stuff. I find the 4 ghz prescott and 2 gig of ram with DVD burner is more than enough for anything I need.

Well no mather how fast that is, those +200hours in newsleecher won't go any faster
/ot nice system tough, i've never tought about getting a shutlle but maybe for my brother who's wanting a pc it might be worth checking out.
But isn't it basically more expensive than a "normal" case? I'm talking new stuff not ebay btw. just wondering

I think that when you start browsing barebones it seems like they're much more expensive, but in actual fact aren't as bad as it appears when you consider the cost of buying individual components.
The Shuttle brand barebones systems are high quality and well built.
how much would a high quality, well built 'normal' case cost?
same goes for mobo and psu.

well I have just totally bastardised the shuttle case now. ATI sent me a X1900XT and I had to modify the chassis to accept the dual slot cooler, then upon powering up once going into 3d, the amazing little shuttle 300w PSU finally met its match, so now ive a full 500w PSU attached to the case.
Ugly as sin, for sure, not really a shuttle anymore, but it works ! leads everywhere, looks like a cyborg biopsy....
nice reference engineering sample they sent me too. Core hits 715mhz and the memory hits 820mhz..
