Well it all started on an early June Morning. I turned on my computer and went to get a cup of that blessed nector known as coffee. Once i had my coffee in hand I headed back too my computer. As i left the kitchen I noticed an odd burning smell in the air. Thinking I might have burnt something in the kitchen I headed back there. Thankfully nothing was on fire, but that didnt explain the smell......

Thats when 2 and 2 added up and i realized it was the smell of burning PLASTIC. I ran too my computer hoping for the best but it just wasnt meant to be. Little tendrils of greyish/black smoke still hung in the air, the noxious smell was all through the room.

I prayed for the best, unplugged the computer and began the painful process of opening the case. Looking at it I thought the worst had just come true, a complete system meltdown. Piece by piece I started taking it apart, hoping something could be salvaged.

When all was said and done, i lost my motherboard, gfx card and sound card. Ive managed to replace the motherboard and sound card, but im stuck with my old computer with an ATI 9600xt (amazing it still works, guess it just shows the life of ATI) untill im able to get a new card.

Hopefully this is my chance at a new card. But i wish everyone luck with their entries as well.

For some reason I'm locked in a room with a Nintendo NES and a 80s color television, fortunately there was also an old PC with a pentium II CPU and 56K modem so I can look on the internet now and then. A guy in a white suit opens my door to give me some food so I don't starve to death..
The tests they are experimenting on me make me weak so I can't break out..
it's been years now.. and I still haven't seen new things..

well, to be honest I've been stuck with a Geforce FX 5900 for the past 4 years which makes gaming an impossibility for me. If i get this card i can focus on upgrading my other components and hopefully pull together a new rig.

Hey DH members, how're you doin'?

I am not the biggest guy (unless you count it sideways) but recently I've been having a large streak of bad luck. Yesterday, for example, I was in the common room when I heard that there has been a recent outbreak of worms in the School. It's kind of a thing to laugh at, and I usually would, but I realised that my O-Ring has been itching really bad, and I fear that I may have worms. I've not told my parents yet, but will get around to doing it. I'll probably get laughed at.

I had applied for a course in College, 3d Design, when my exam results came back. I had, unfortunately, been thrown a "D" which is still an Award, just really, really bad. I hoped they would let me if I showed them some of my 3d work, but they told me I wouldn't even get in (I didn't even get to an Interview, to show them my work). In Scotland we're depressed a lot, but there's only so much depression one can take. I am not contemplating Suicide, but am definently feeling like dog faeces.

Two days ago I've found out that I might not be getting an EMA, which I use to buy School stuff such as Study books, notes, Past Exam papers etc etc. I'm from a working class family and as such we don't have access to a lot of funds. My Dad is off sick from work because a disk slipped out of his back and he can't bend his back much. He was the second earner in our home so we've had to cut back on our expenses. Basically I can't buy books meaning I could fail the subjects I need it for.

My grandmother, who's suffered a fall recently, is not doing very well. It's happened before, and she's came through, but she looks quite ill this time. She might die and my brother who lives in my grandmothers house could be homeless for a while (Probably not, he'll stay here, but the added pressure of him living here could cause lots of trouble in the house).

Finally I've just gotten over a chest infection (I'm asthmatic) but I can feel another one coming on. I might have to stay off School decreasing my chances even more of getting an EMA unless I go to the doctor, who usually says "It sounds fine to me, I'll give you some antibiotics. No need for you to stay off School now." even when my chest feels like I'm being stabbed.

Maybe the month will get better, but I don't know. Judging by the way things have been going on it probably won't.

I need this HD4870x2 because this week has been going really bad. The PC I'm running is quite good which I saved up for with surplus EMA money, but the the graphics card is Ok.

I need this graphics card because I need something to do while I complete school, and upgrading my PC seems like a cool thing. I'm going to try and do some more 3d works and get in touch with a careers advisor.

I play at 1680 x 1050 and my nvidia 8800GT handles some games well, but many others have moderate slowdown. this is without any eye candy enabled. Also because I have an early model it dumps all the hot air back into the case. When I play Crysis the bottom corner of my case is almost too hot to touch.

I'm not going to claim that i "deserve" this card more than anyone else.

I will however throw my pitch......I am a single-parent of 4 kids (verifiable) with a demanding job. Between the kids, job, house etc. etc. i look forward to a few late-night gaming sessions a week to blow off some steam and relieve some stress. Our current Video Card is a few generations old and not keeping up with some of the older games, let alone the newer ones. The 4870 would go a long ways in helping us catch up so my kids and myself can better enjoy something new and different rather than the same old games we're stuck with now.

I'm gonna say it like it is. My willy isn't that big , I don't have a big car to compensate (Peugeot 106). So with this 4870X2 I could clearly compensate for my short-commings.

Well it all started with my little sister. Last year she was whining about getting a dog. My parents approved and we got a yellow Labrador Retriever. So far, so good.

In Spring my parents had a meeting and they left me behind together with the dog. So a couple of days alone with him, nothing special.
But while I was cleaning my pc (shitload dust in it) I also removed my graphics card. I put it on the table, together with a couple of SATA cables and a Antec Tricool fan and went to the bathroom. When I got back that fricking labrador had picked the card from the table and was in the garden chewing on it (Antec fan was already broken).
At first sight there wasn't that much broken, but when I inspected it further I saw that some of the mosfets were broken. The card was dead . '

So now i'm nearly 5 months using the onboard graphics card and you all know that you can't play games in such manner very well.
Therefore I'm in desperate need of a graphics card to play games. And hey, a HD4870X2 is like a dream come true...


I have pictures of the criminal if there is need of it. Maybe also from the card if a have stored it anywhere...

When I play, I'm used to eat some dry apple slices. Using this card I will be able to check if it is possible to play AND to eat AND to dry some apple slices. That would be great and a tremendous new use of my PC.

I don't have cancer, no one I know is dead, my shiny new computer didn't blow itself up, I did not lose my job and am in debt, I'm not constantly ill, and lastly, I will not try to win this card because "I deserve it".

The only sad thing I can come up with is that the laptop I used for web design/programming just had its hard drive die a week ago. That is it.

Consider me for the radeon 4870x2. My life has been a downward spiral for the past two and a half years. At the start of my second year of college, I had to drop out. It was a local college so I lived at my parents house and commuted. Unfortunately my parents addiction with the television got a lot worse and I couldn't study or do any reports because the TV would be blasting non stop. Yeah, I know it sounds silly, but it was very serious problem. I went from being on the dean's list (~3.5 GPA) to all F's.

Six months after dropping out of school and living at home in despair, I develop some sort of mystery illness in my digestive system. To make a long story less long I had to go to the emergency room 3 times in one week and eventually stayed in the hospital for a couple days in order to get temporarily better. The doctors didn't find anything causing my symptoms so I don't know what it is I have. It hasn't gone away, either. Every couple of months I get very sick. And since I had to drop out of school, I have no insurance to get testing done.

So a week or two after getting out of the hospital, my parents found out that my brother (TV addict #3), who was living in his own apartment while attending college (paid for entirely by mom and dad), had never gone to school in a year. He was buying drugs and partying with the money they would send him for food, rent, and bills. So this A-hole ends up living back at home with me. The only available room for him to stay in is next to mine, which is a huge problem because he snores so damn loud that I often get very little sleep. He's a total stereotypical pot head and alcoholic, stinking up the house with his weed while watching spongebob all day long.

Fast forward 1.5 years and we arrive at today. I'm still surviving at home with the psycho family, unable to work. In addition to my stomach issues, I have developed problems with my knees, a bad pinched nerve in my shoulder, and TMJ in my jaw. At this point I just let the days go by. I spend nearly all day getting around the three TV addicts to do simple tasks like the laundry and cooking. In what time and sanity I have left to spare I play games and surf the net.

I hope to go back to college (far away) and escape the stress of this family someday, but the way things are in this house and with my health I won't be able to anytime soon.
