Because my eyesight just failed pretty much completely so I need an awesome card to be able to handle the 8192 x 8192 resolution that my eyes now RELY on to be able to even read the excellent reviews on DH. This 4870x2 would make life so much easier for me.

Ok let me tell you my sad story.

Dad puts Son first, gets him the killer system as dad struggles along on much older PC system, ATI9700Pro GPU. Son then spills water on system and blows up the 3000.00 custom system and trys to blame it on Dog then wants me to replace it, all the while I am paying for his first year of college only to find out he is not going at all and has dropped out. Now gets better gets a job finally and within two weeks is fired for stealing becuase he doesn't make enough. So enough with the Son the Dad wants the killer card!!

Not sure about the loose but its a Sob story for sure!!

The Habit [of playing games]

In a room in the house there lived a human. Not a nasty, dirty, wet room, filled with the ends of video cards and burned smell, nor yet a cold, bare, stinky room with nothing in it to sit down on or to play: it was a video game human-room, and that means comfort.

It had a rectangular door like a porthole, painted black, with a yellow bright warning sign in the exact middle. The door opened onto a big room, like a gaming haven: a very comfortable room without smoke, with decorated walls, and floors tiled and wired, provided with polished speakers, and lots and lots of space for video games and peripherals - the human was fond of his room. The computer shined on and on, lighting fairly but not quite bright in the side of his room - Ze Computer, as all the people from many IPs round called it - and many little lights glowed out of it, first on one side and then on another. No going online for the human: chating, playing, surfing, downloading (lots of these), uploading (he had configured a whole FTP devoted to files), all were on the same matrix, and indeed on the same computer. The best computers were all on the left-hand side of the street, for these were the only ones to have Windows, deep-set round faces looking over his grass and garden beyond, hoping to play with him.

This human was a very well-to-do human, and his name was Majesty00. Majesty00 had lived in the room of the house for time out of mind, and people considered him very unfortunate, not only because he lacked a good video card, but also because he never had any adventures or did anything unexpected: you could tell what he would say on any question without to bother of asking him. This is a sad story of how Majesty00 had an adventure, lost himself looking and saying things altogether unexpected. He may have lost his video card, but he gained-well, you will see whether he won a new card in the end.

The following is a true story of the events that took place on January 1st 2008 around 2:00 AM.

My girlfriend and I had just moved to the area and wanted to have a good time to kick-off the year. We went out for a night on the town with some friends and had a great time at a local pub. Being that the public transportation is the best and safest way to get around this area, we decided to do the responsible thing after a night’s worth of drinking and celebration and take the subway home.

While in route to said subway, a citizen apparently called 911 and reported that there were two drunk individuals walking on the sidewalk and gave the operator the location of my girlfriend and I (I would hear the actual 911 recording later). Out of nowhere, an ambulance shows up and EMTs begin to harass us about being intoxicated (remember, this is New Years Eve/Day…being intoxicated on this night of all nights is not unheard of). They wouldn’t leave us alone and finally we agreed to let them check us out. They took us into the ambulance and began inspecting my girlfriend; I sat next to her to make sure she was comfortable with what was going on. Little did I know that while I was in the ambulance with her and one of the EMTs, the other official was calling for Police backup.

Police arrive and the EMT says “He’s the one who is being unruly and pointed at me sitting next to my girlfriend in the ambulance.” The police officers approached and told me to get out to which I said “I do not want to leave my girlfriend in the care of these EMTs as she does not wish to be treated (she had no health insurance, mind you and we were only mildly intoxicated here). The next thing that happened was two officers stormed the ambulance and began manhandling me to try to get me out of the ambulance. My girlfriend was screaming at them to stop while I was in shock and abruptly slammed to the ambulance’s steel-plated floor. The next feeling I had was my muscles contracting to the shock of 50,000 volts directly into the back of my neck. This went on for at least 20 seconds as I was being dragged from the ambulance doors. Off to jail for trying to protect the one I love.

After a cold night in the “tank” I was being booked into jail for assault on a police officer, disturbing the peace, and disorderly conduct while intoxicated. I did the only thing I could and had to call the parents to get help (we had just moved, I was just starting my career out of college, and we were strapped for money). After I was able to post bail I had to hike about 2 miles to the nearest metro station and take a subway to the hospital my girlfriend was taken to. Come to find out, she had a very bad night as well. They had pumped her so full of sedatives that she could barely move. I informed her of what an officer told me while in the jail. She had bitten a police officer’s hand during the scuffle the night before and the hospital and EMTs were pressing charges against her for assault.

11 days later at 11:30pm, four 6ft + 200lb+ male cops and the female officer my girlfriend had bitten showed up at our apartment to arrest her. The female officer wouldn’t let my girlfriend even get dressed (which the male officers thought was a bit odd; they even told her at first she could). We had to borrow more money from my parents to get her out of jail which occurred at about 5:00 AM the next morning. We both had court dates set and had to get a lawyer fast. After borrowing more money from my parents we were able to find a somewhat competent one (if this sounds strange to you, it’s even weirder typing it).

On the day of my trial, I walked in to the court room in a full suit ready for the county prosecutor to let me have it. No sooner did we get there then she promptly said she was dropping the case (gee…I wonder why that could be? Perhaps it was because it would look bad that I was trying to prevent treatment to my girlfriend, not being aggressive, was tazed multiple times, was NOT given a PBT for alcohol, and was arrested?) My girlfriend’s case ended up going to trial. She was convicted with the following charges: assault on a police officer (felony), assault on the EMTs, assault on the hospital staff, disorderly conduct while intoxicated, and disturbing the peace. The judge saw the ridiculousness of this case and was nice enough to grant a probation before judgment ruling allowing her to do probation and not be charged with the aforementioned charges.

The bills that we accrued in that one night and the main reason why I cannot afford a card such as the ATI 4870 X2 is as follows:
Bail - $1000
Hospital Bills (remember she was uninsured) - $2100
Lawyer - $3000
Court Fines and Probationary Program Fee - $1000

We are trying our hardest to pay my parents and the other bills but living in the #8 ritziest county in America according to Forbes.com (Complete List: America's Richest Counties - Forbes.com) makes it very hard to stay “afloat” at the same time. Our rent alone is $1175/month! So now that I’ve told my sob story, I hope that you can see why I cannot afford a card such as this anytime soon. I used to be an avid gamer but now my computer is out of date and I don’t know when I will be able to upgrade it. Thank you for all who read my story, and I assure you…it is true and I have the documentation to back it up.

Anyhew I only want this card so I can rip off the "as always" inadequate and noisy cooling solutions provided by ATI/AMD and it's partners. I will be gentle and perhaps install something from CoolIT or in retrospect something from Arctic Cooling with a pocket full of additional ram sinks

i couldn't play far cry because my videocard doesn't support it. believe it or not, i cried for it. and now far cry 2 is coming out and i know that i would'nt be able to play it because i don't have a good videocard yet. so please DH i beg you. give me this card or i will start crying again... please..!

With each passing day...everytime i look this thread..it feels like i'll never gonna WIN this...its sad but..i really wanna win..some of the members posted great stories...that impress me too..so im gonna make another story just to keep up with these impressive stories..bcoz i really wanna win this card..im just a kid..and my family doesn't have money for luxury..only for necessity(i don't know if my spelling is correct sorry)..so here's my story:

Im a gamer..i play games like GOW..Farcry..Crysis..Oblivion..games like that..at my friend's PC..I don't have money..one time i tried to save money for a Vcard and i lost a lot of things with that attempt..I don't a job..bcoz im just a kid..trying to graduate from highschool..4 years ago..when my father was still alive..I had a playstation 2..and a decent PC that could play Hitman Contracts,Farcry 1...back then these games are for high-end PCs..but when my father passed away...(I was very young back then)..I could not believe it and unable to work properly in school..which results to having me to repeat my 6th grade...but bcoz my father was gone..we had to spent all our saving for his hospital and funeral..so how did I continue my studies?..I sold every gadget that I have back then..my PS2..my PC..my gameboy advance...all my 'tools' as gamer..

Well now..my mother's business is looking good..all our needs are being satisfied..my mother bought me a PC (equivalent to $200 in US)..but it lacks a Vcard..the very heart of any gaming machine..(don't worry my PC has a PCIe slot and I have a 600watt PSU)..I really need a Vcard that can satisfy my needs as a GAMER..This may sound selfish..but Im from a third world country and our Vcards here are outdated and VERY expensive....so please let win your prize..I want it just like everybody else here...please read my previous posts..maybe you would like it if you read it again....RJ

Hmmm, first of all let me thank Driverheaven.net for this wonderful competition. In fact I was googling the net and I fell on this magnificent site, the reviews are astonishing. So why would I deserve this card. I cannot impose on sending me the card, but I won't disagree that this competition is being held during an appropriate period. Am a Mauritian and in my small island everything relating to PC is excessively expensive, nevertheless, this year, my father managed to buy me a PC with reasonable specs but I couldn't get a good video card, result : am not able to use my PC for proper gaming. I'll also not lie, am really attracted to high standard gaming meaning extreme graphics, core immersion etc especially with games such as far cry 2 and crysis warhead. To end with, I would sum up my life which is a lammentable one that is no girl friend and very few friends, so am always in a miserable mood, the only thing that cheers me up is when am exploding some locust heads or striking the goals of fifa ( though my gfx card is not so good), so Driverheaven, my mighty salutes for your competition as if I win it will not only make my holidays worth living but enhance my quality of life as well, mighty thanks!!!

When I was twelve I forced my mom to buy me a PC, even though it was one of the slowest, I swear I was the most happy guy ever, till I left the World of Emulators, I encouraged myself to travel around the world to earn some money, now I'm finally back to my home country, but sadly I could afford everything but the video card even though I worked for several years. It's 4:00'o clock in the morning, I slowly balance myself after taking myself off the bed, with the cold surrounding me, I take my jacket and leave the room, walking downstairs I can hear some kids screaming, yet I showed no response, the cold kept me off the track, but I finally reached the doorknob, I couldn't turn it around, it was stuck. Suddenly I hear the kid voices above the floor, I walk back to the room, what I heard, made me realize who I am.
