Zotac 8800GTX AMP! Edition
The Zotac 8800GTX AMP! Edition comes in an attractive looking box. Although most manufacturers lately seem to prefer minimalistic designs the in your face look of the Zotac package is sure to grab your attention. The contents aren’t as spectacular as the box might imply, but they more than serve their purpose. There are plenty of TV connectivity cables, as well as two DVI-to-VGA adapters, a Molex to PCI-E adapter, the mandatory driver CD and a short instruction booklet. As with the rest of the 8800 lineup there is regrettably no HDMI adapter (due to the fact that the 8800 cards don’t have the required hardware on board).
On the surface the Zotac 8800GTX AMP! Edition looks just like any other 8800GTX, which includes the huge cooler, two PCI-E power connectors and several capacitors located just next to the cooler.
What makes the card special are the higher specifications. The GPU is clocked at a whooping 621MHz, making it slightly faster than even the Ultra reference board. Preventing it from overtaking the ultra however is the slower shader clock, which is happily ticking at the reference 1350MHz.
The memory, instead of running at 900/1800MHz is set to 1000/2000MHz, which should in theory provide a nice boost over a reference 8800GTX. Seeing the faster memory clocks we were at first concerned for the stability of the card, but after a check, we find the Zotac uses the Hynix HY5RS123235B FP-1 memory modules which are rated at 1000/2000MHz, therefore our fears were put to rest. The amount of memory didn’t suffer because of the faster chips, so it is still configured at 768Mb.
The above picture says more than we could with a thousand words: two Dual-DVI connectors and a TV-Out plug, as well as the nicely designed dual-slot cooler which is standard issue for all 8800GTX cards.
