Overclocking

Our overclockers of choice for this review were powerstrip for the XT and the Coolbits registry hack for the 5950 Ultra. We overclocked the cards in small increments until the maximum settings were found. (This was the first FX product we have used where the auto detect feature for overclocking did not work, the settings it chose resulted in major instability.)

The maximum stable overclocks, which showed no graphical anomalies, were:

Nvidia GeForce FX 5950 Ultra: 550/1000
Sapphire Radeon 9800 XT: 463/806
