This benchmark is written by my good friend, the Italian coding wizard Paolo Martella, and has been used for many years as one of the gamers first choices for opengl benching. With the release at some stage next year of Glexcess2, V1 of this benchmark is near the end of its life expectancy. Indeed Paolo has released the source code for V1 for all you budding coders out there and you can get it from his website at www.glexcess.com (actually we host it for him, but go over and check his site out!). Even though most of the modern games recently are using D3D acceleration I feel its important to add this into the review of the Visiontek 9800 pro as it gives an indication of how games like Serious Sam 2 will run if you decide to purchase this card. This benchmark has been run on the 9800 pro many times and has featured in previous hardware reviews on this site, so for your perusal ive included my results on the 9800 XT, both stock and overclocked. ATI cards dont tend to dominate opengl, this tapers down from the professional market, its been an Nvidia dominated area for quite some time, but the sheer power of this hardware gives some high results.

A very good set of results, but really its not ATIs forte, the 9x series is much more proficient at D3D acceleration. Hopefully by the time the next series of ATI hardware is available we will have GLEXCESS2 for benching and comparisions. Next: Aquamark3
