Packaging and bundle

The Ultra X3 comes in a simplistic, cubic packaging which is identical in terms of design and size with the more powerful X3 series units (with the exception of the 1000W unit which is supplied in a red package).

The package is strong enough to absorb a couple of heavy bumps and the unit inside it is trapped between two thick Styrofoam pieces. The 600W unit is not very heavy, so it is unlikely for it to be damaged during transportation.

The Ultra X3 600W unit is completely modular, much like the rest of the series. Its cables are supplied in a separate box, along with a small but informative manual. All of the cables feature the Flexforce technology, each cable is attached to the one next to it, creating a single cable per connector rather than a bunch. All of the cables and connectors are black. The number of the cables you will find in the package can be seen in the table below:

Qty Cable Description Length (inches)
1 24 Pin Motherboard Connector 19.5
1 4 Pin +12V Motherboard Connector 19.5
1 8 Pin EPS Connector 19.5
2 6 Pin PCI-Express Connectors 19.5
2 5 Pin SATA Power Cable (3 Devices) 25.5
2 5 Pin SATA Power Cable (2 Devices) 21.5
1 4 Pin Power Cable (2 Devices) 23.5
2 4 Pin Power Cable (2 Devices + 2 Floppy) 29.5
1 4 Pin Power Cable (3 Devices) 23.5
1 4 Pin Power Cable (1 Device) 7.5
1 3 Pin Fan Connector (3 Devices) 25.5

The Unit

The chassis of the Ultra X3 600W is adorned with a highly reflective paint which looks great, but also easily attracts unsightly fingerprints. The unit is cooled by a black 135mm fan, yet it is no longer than a typical ATX unit and because of this it should fit into any ATX case perfectly.

The rear of the unit is entirely perforated for the air to escape outside the PC chassis. A simple on/off rocker switch is present at the rear of the unit.

As we anticipated, the front side of the unit is entirely dominated by connectors for the modular cables. The Ultra X3 series do not have a single native cable attached to them directly, every cable down to the necessary 24-pin motherboard connector is modular. The left side of the unit is entirely dominated by a sticker with the specifications of the unit.

The design of the Ultra X3 600W unit is entirely different when compared to the more powerful units of the series. The heatsinks appear to be much larger, but they are actually thinner while being spread out.

There is only one main transformer, where the rest of the series have two or three main transformers. The needed power output can be covered by that main transformer, cutting down the manufacturing and component cost significantly, this makes the 600W unit much cheaper than the other units in the series.

All of the capacitors used in the Ultra X3 units are made by Teapo. It is interesting to note that all of the capacitors in the particular unit are higher grade capacitors which are rated for operation at 105 Celsius degrees. Although the unit will certainly never reach over 100 celcius, a higher grade capacitor will still last longer working at a nominal temperature than a lower grade capacitor, effectively enhancing the lifespan of the unit. Kudos to Ultra for this decision.
