Introduction:
Samsung need no introduction, they are a multifaceted company
with almost seventy-years of experience in everything from
chemicals to semiconductors, Samsung continues to be a leader
in home electronics and has become a leader in computer
technologies.
Today I have the pleasure
of reviewing Samsung’s SpinPoint HD160JJ hard drive.
This 160GB SATA II model features NCQ technology and more.
As comparison, I will be comparing against several other
hard drives including a 160GB Western Digital WD1600JD.
The Drive:
Here we can see the SpinPoint HD160JJ as compared to
the Caviar WD1600JD. Although it is not something one
would look for in a hard drive, both hard drives are aesthetically
pleasing in their own way.
The design and board layout of the SpinPoint
HD160JJ is not dramatically different from that of the
WD1600JD. The design of the WD1600JD is ideal, however,
as its board layout is hidden, which provides extra protection
to the hard drive’s decoupling capacitors and other
board circuitry components. You will notice that the SpinPoint
HD160JJ does not feature legacy power support, which depending
on your power supply may or may not make a difference
to you.
