OCZ have really pushed the envelope with the historically
underperforming flash drive technology. Over the course
of several days of extreme stress testing i never had
a single instance of any file getting corrupt or lost,
OCZ dont offer a year or even 10 year's warranty with
these drives, its a LIFETIME warranty. It doesn't get
any better than that.
Performance is first class with both drives handling
a multitude of backup tasks with ease, the only time you
notice you aren't running on a hard drive is
when writing a folder with a large variety of small files
as we did in the second part of our real world windows
tests. Read rates are superb and the best i've seen within
this medium.
If I was comparing the two models on test today, I would
give the edge to the 512 model, it is the fastest drive
in it's class and with prices on the net of around $40
(at time of publication) it is an absolute steal. The
2GB model is slower when reading than its smaller brother
but is noticeably faster when writing large folders
and if it wasnt for the $180 asking price I would have
given this the higher recommendation. I personally think
the 2GB model is the better of the two, but I know $180
is a substantial investment when most people are only
moving a few JPGs or word documents between machines.
For the casual user, the 512 MB Rally drive is the clear
choice of any flash drive i have tested. Not only is it
the fastest but the looks are sure to appeal to those
of you wanting something sleek, elegant and small enough
to fit in a shirt pocket.
For the power user needing to move larger files between
machines the 2GB should be on your shortlist with the
fastest write times ive seen on a drive of this kind.
It makes copying large archives an absolute breeze and
will be sure to attract many designers working with large
graphic files.
Both drives are awarded the Heavenly Hardware Gold Award
with the more practical recommendation being the 512 model,
but my personal favoutite has to be the 2GB model.
EDIT: OCZ have informed me that the retail price
for the 2 gig model is actually $130 and it appears some
online stores are overcharging for the product. At this
price the 2 gig model is amazing value for money.
