Half-Life 2 Episode 1 is the first
in a series of games that chronicle events after
the end of Half-Life 2. The game engine is Valves
"Source" however unlike the original
Half-Life 2, Valve have added HDR lighting which
works well with the existing engine to produce
some great visuals.

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 gives us
our first look at the performance of the 7950GT
512Mb. At 1600x1200 with 4x Anti Aliasing, 16x
Anisotropic filtering and HDR we see Palits 7950GT
is a reasonable margin ahead of ATI's X1900GT
256mb. As we move up to 1920x1200 resolution using
the same detail levels the Nvidia based card remains
ahead of the X1900GT although the 7950 takes a
larger drop in frames per second between resolutions.
Comparing the 7950GT to
the similarly priced X1900XT shows that the ATI
card is well ahead of the Nvidia card at 1600x1200
and when playing at 1920x1200 the performance
gap increases even further to a stage where there
really is no competition.
