Arctic Cooling Accelero S1/Turbo Module

Arctic Cooling provide the Accelero S1 in a clear plastic packet. This packaging allows us to clearly see the whole product on both sides as well as making some of the bundled components visible. The cooler is designed to be silent, however Arctic cooling have catered for all users and have designed a small fan module which can be easily attached to the heatsink for enhanced cooling.

The components shown on the left are the main Accelero bundle and comprise of various aluminium heatsinks , a small fold out sheet of instructions and the clips/screws required for installation. The addition of items such as heatsinks for Voltage Regulator cooling add some extra value to the product and also make it feel that little more enthusiast orientated. On the right we can see the small bundle which is provided with the Turbo module, the cable provided is designed to convert the 3pin fan connector into a molex connector for anyone not wishing to attach the fans to their motherboard headers.

Let’s cut to the chase, the heatsink is massive. There are thirty-two aluminium fins on the Accelero S1 which all connect to the 4 copper heatpipes. Unlike the Zalman VNF100 the S1 is supplied with the copper base pre attached to the heatpipes. Arctic Cooling also pre-apply thermal paste to the Accelero, this is Arctic Cooling’s own MX-1 thermal compound which is just about the best paste available and should really help with heat dissipation. Also shown above are the two Turbo Module fans, these fans run at 1500RPM, are 80mm wide and have an air flow rating of 42 CFM.

Installation of the Accelero S1 was very easy. Lay the cooler face down on the desk, lay the card on top, core down, and then attach the screws to hold in place. There is also a step required to attach two black plastic clips which keep the cooler steady and stop the fins from making contact with the card. We have also included a picture above showing the turbo module when attached. It is a simple process to install the module, basically clipping the fans on and ensuring the wires are pushed back through the fins.

Shown below is a list of cards compatible with the S1:
ATI: X1950, X1900, X1800 series
nVIDIA: GeForce 7950, 7900, 7800, 6800 series (except 7X00 GS AGP)

Arctic cooling also offer an S2 model ($4/€4 cheaper) featuring 2 heatpipes which is designed for the following cards:
ATI: HD 2400 series, X1650 - X1050 series, X850 - X300 series, 9XXX series
