Video Conversion

Our video conversion test takes a short 1080 resolution WMV-HD file (114Mb) and converts it to Mpeg-4/DivX Compatible format with a file size of 56Mb.

When it comes to video encoding it is advantageous to buy an ATI/AMD product which supports the Avivo Video convertor. Luckily for those who buy a 690G based board this is one such product. The result is the ability to convert video much faster than any other tool we have seen and this is shown by the graph above which clearly shows the EQS board to be a significant amount faster than the other products being tested. One thing we can see however is that there are real world advantages to be had from the new chipset used on Abit’s board which completes the encoding test 4 seconds faster than the older Asus product.

 

Audio Conversion

Our audio conversion test takes a 491mb, 18 track (78min) CD rip (WM Lossless) and converts it to 128Kbps Mp3 with a file size of 71.7Mb.

Audio conversion is a much more level test than the video conversion due to the use of a generic application, in this case Easy CD-DA extractor. Again we see that there is a clear increase in performance between the old and new Nvidia based boards however the comparison with the AMD based EQS board shows the two newer chipsets are identical in audio conversion times.
