OK,
let’s play a little game. I’ll say a
word and you say the first thing that comes into
your head…
Ready????...
“Enermax”
There’s
a good chance you’ve just responded with the
words “Power Supply”…
Although
Enermax make some of the best power supplies available,
today’s review gives us the chance to see
if Enermax are any good at making other PC peripherals.
The product we are looking at is the Aurora Keyboard.
Admittedly
reading a review of a keyboard doesn’t sound
the most interesting way to spend 15 minutes, however
everyone needs one and as most of us spend a considerable
amount of hard earned money building a PC it really
is a bad idea to skimp on a keyboard purchase.
Packaging
and Bundle
The Aurora
keyboard comes packaged in a reasonably solid box.
On the front we have some information on the unit
such as the material and the finish. The keyboard
is also clearly seen through a window on the left
of the packaging.
On the back of the box
we get more information on the keyboard. In fact
there is nothing left to the imagination as far
as features are concerned. Enermax have done well
with the packaging.
We will look at the keyboard
in a moment however before we do there is one
item included with the unit worth discussing and
that’s the cloth. As this is a metal keyboard
it will obviously get covered in fingerprints
so Enermax have included a polishing cloth. A
strange concept …
The main casing is all
aluminum and the keys are plastic as would be
expected. The keyboard certainly looks the business.
The above picture does
not show it particularly well, however the black
aluminium is actually brushed which looks a lot
better than it would have in matt or gloss. There
is also good attention to detail, such as the
top band of the keyboard being cut slightly higher
than the rest of the unit which exposes the silver
metal underneath. This silver edge as well as
the surround of the keys and the edges of the
keyboard is all diamond cut; smooth and precise.
The keyboard itself is
a standard size however it does have a very low
profile, you can see in the next image that it
doesn’t rise very far off the desk, even
at its highest point. This height is actually
very easy to type on.
