Sisoft’s “Sandra”
tool allows you to run a series of component specific
tests on your system and compare them to a wide
number of components within the results database.
This can be useful in determining how well your
system is performing and if any changes in components
would benefit performance.

Results from the Sandra
test are a real mixed bag. Looking at CPU arithmetic
first we see that the Core2 CPU performs better
than the high end AMD CPU’s. The 6000 point
difference in Dhrystone is quite significant when
comparing the Extreme to the FX-62. Whetstone
tests are slightly less impressive, however the
2.93 GHz Extreme still outscores the FX-62 by
a significant margin.
Multimedia results are
astounding and the Intel chips obliterate the
competition, at first glance the results are actually
so high they are not believable!
When we look at memory
bandwidth the advantages of AMD’s on chip
memory controller really show. Both systems are
using the same DDR2 sticks and timings yet the
AMD results are 40% faster than Intel's.
